Warriors rally past Deer Lakes, 15-7

Evan Lewis’ 5-yard run in the fourth quarter rallied Elizabeth Forward past Deer Lakes Friday night with the Warriors returning home with a 15-7 win in Big East Conference play.

Lewis scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter, but the two-point pass failed and the Warriors trailed 7-6 entering the fourth quarter.

Lewis’ scoring run in the fourth quarter lifted Elizabeth Forward (1-0, 1-0) to a 12-7 lead, but the two-point run failed.

Lewis carried the ball 19 times for 81 yards.

Andrew Smith gave the Warriors a little breathing room with about three minutes left in the game with a 27-yard field goal.

Deer Lakes drove into Elizabeth Forward territory in the waning moments of the game, but Nico Mrvos’ interception clinched the conference victory.

Mrvos completed 4-of-10 passes for 32 yards. Chase Whatton caught three passes for 29 yards. Nick Hunnell rushed for 66 yards on 16 carries.
