Trojans hold off Elizabeth Forward, 26-17
Elizabeth Forward was knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten Friday night with a 26-17 loss at Derry in Big East Conference action.
The Warriors (3-1, 4-1) scored two defensive touchdowns in the first half.
Nico Mrvos returned an interception 57 yards to spot the visitors the lead at 9:42 of the first quarter. Zach Boyd had an 18-yard interception return for a score at 11:20 of the second quarter.
The Trojans (3-1, 4-2) cut the deficit in half with 1:14 remaining in the second quarter on Justin Huss’ 14-yard touchdown pass to Paul Koontz.
Elizabeth Forward extended its lead to 17-7 in the third quarter on Andrew Smith’s 37-yard field goal, but then Huss took over the rest of the quarter with touchdown runs of 80, 2 and 1 yards.
Mrvos led the Warriors with 76 yards rushing on 15 carries. He also completed 5-of-13 passes for 38 yards with an interception.
