AEW presents ‘Revolution’ tonight
All Elite Wrestling concludes one of its most important weeks in the promotionÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ short history tonight when it presents Revolution on PPV.
The main event will make pro wrestling history as AEW champion Kenny Omega defends the title against Jon Moxley in the first No Ropes Exploding Barbed Wire match to take place in America.
The legendary Sting returns to the ring as he teams with Darby Allin to take on Ricky Starks and Brian Cage in a Street Fight.
In other matches, The Young Bucks defend the AEW tag titles against Chris Jericho and MJF, Matt Hardy faces Adam Page in a Big Money Match, a six-person ladder match for the TNT title will take place, Hikaru Shina defends the her AEW title against Ryo Mizunami, plus there will be three more matches.
As previously mentioned, this show concludes one of the most important shows in AEW history.
Coming off of the big Dynamite show that received national attention due to NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal wrestling, AEW is banking on ShaqÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ appearance and WednesdayÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ episode of Dynamite to have sold PPV buys.
ShaqÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ big spot
The national sports media gave Shaq love after he took a bump through tables.
Will he wrestle again? I would think so although I wonder why AEW decided to give ShaqÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ match away for free instead of trying to bump the PPV buy rate tonight.
Then again, Shaq is more known for being a media member than a dominant NBA player to todayÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ younger generation, so maybe AEW made the right move.
AEW picked up over 100,000 viewers from last week and it was the most viewers since the Brody Lee tribute on December 30.
New AEW signing
Tony Kahn announced earlier this week that AEW has signed a Hall of Fame level competitor and the signing will be announced at Revolution tonight.
Names have been flying around like C.M. Punk, Mark Henry and even Brock Lesnar.
It could be just about anyone and we will see what AEW has up its sleeve.
The company just signed Paul Wight (The Big Show in WWE) and while WightÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ signing isn’t as big of a deal as some have made it out to be, it has sown that talent is willing to leave WWE for AEW.
Who will the new signing be? Could it be Pat McAfee, the former NFL player who has wrestled twice in NXT and shown incredible athleticism?
We will find out who it is tonight.
LashleyÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ WWE title win
To say that LashleyÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ title win Monday on Raw was long overdue is an understatement.
He dominated The Miz to win the title in quick fashion and almost all signs point to him defending the title against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 37, but could WWE go with someone like Brock Lesnar?
Both Lashley and Lesnar have an MMA background and while it may not happen at Mania, Vince McMahon has to be contemplating such a match.
CrockettÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ passing
It was announced Wednesday that Jim Crockett passed about.
While CrockettÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ name may not be known to younger wrestling fans, older supporters of the business know all about him.
He ran Jim Crockett Promotions, who for a time, was a legit threat to the Rock N’ Wrestling era of the WWF in the 1980s. there was a stretch of time when Crockett would run an NWA show in the same town as WWF with both promotions selling out their respective shows.
A pioneer of the business, Crockett will always be remembered as one of the better promoters the business has ever seen.
On This Day…
In 1967, WWWF champion Bruno Sammartino and NWA International heavyweight champion Giant Baba wrestled to a 90-minute time limit draw in a Best out of Three Falls match. The match ended with both earning one fall each.
This weekÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ question:
Can AEW become real competition for WWE? Ryan, Uniontown.
If it were to happen, it wouldn’t be for quite a long time. AEW has to continue to build its audience and many are curious to see how many PPV buys they have for tonightÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ show.
In memory
This weekÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ column is dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Cheryl Hackett.
Mrs. Hackett was one of the nicest people I have ever met and she will be missed by all of us lucky enough to know her.
My thoughts and prayers go out to her husband Jim, son Terry and grandson Jimmy, who is my nephew.
