Bentworth wrestlers pin Prexies, 60-12

Bentworth used eight forfeits for a 60-12 home victory Wednesday night over Washington in Section 1-AA action.

Baylee Oreski (107), Brian Mathews (114), Josh Hancock (121), Ben Luketich (127), Mackenzie Spano (145), Kaden Ayres (152), Owen Ivcic (160), and Brayden Taggart (172) all received forfeits.

Zeek Malanosky (215), Chris Vargo (133), and Vitali Daniels (172) won by fall.

Ringgold 51, Penn-Trafford 21 – The Rams were solid throughout the lineup for a Section 3-AAA home victory.

Ringgold’s Austin Pehowic (215), Jake Conroy (285), Evan Tolliver (121), Braydon Campbell (133), and Jack Duncan (160) all won by fall. Andrew Bruce (107), Cristian Lowther (145), and Tanner Shawl (152) received forfeits, and Gavin Mincin (172) won by decision.

West Allegheny 42, Waynesburg Central 22 – West Allegheny was too deep for the Raiders for a Section 5-AAA road win.

Waynesburg’s Brock Evans (160), Floyd Huff (114), and Ky Szewczyk (127) won by decision, Floyd Huff (114) won by fall, Joseph Simon (133) secured a major decision, and Roan Tustin (215) received a forfeit.

Southmoreland 48, Elizabeth Forward 29 – The Scotties returned home with a Section 2-AA victory.

Southmoreland’s Kaden Shannon (215) Nicholas Lubecki (114), Landyn Queer (127), Kolten Lewandowski (133), Wyatt Corvin (160) Ethan Kenney (172), and Landon Delara (189) all received forfeits. Jacob Govern won by fall at 285 pounds.

Elizabeth Forward’s Konner Hummel (107), Emanuel Gardner (145), Damon Michaels (152) and Riley Albert (121) recorded falls, and Lucas Boyer (139) won by technical fall.

Albert Gallatin 57, Yough 17 – The Colonials received six forfeits and recorded three pins for a Section 2-AA road victory.

Nick Hillyard (160), Alex Kinsley (107), Alayna Brundege (127), Logan Holbert (139), Kage Churby (145), and Colton Kelley (152) all received forfeits in the win. Landon Conroy (172), Jason Myers (189), and Austin Coddington (285) won by fall. James Standish won a 7-0 decision at 215 pounds.

The Cougars’ Dominic Liscotti (114) won by fall and Michael Albright received forfeit at 133 pounds.. Rocco Zugai won by technical fall at 121 pounds.

Frazier 36, Belle Vernon 28 – The Commodores secured the Section 2-AA road match when Tanner Hayes received a forfeit at 121 pounds.

The match started with forfeits to Belle Vernon’s Colby Hibner (133) and Frazier’s Chase Celaschi (139).

Frazier’s Tyler Clark (145), Jonah Erdely (152), and Ryan Celaschi (160) received forfeits.

Belle Vernon countered with a forfeit to Elijah Brown (172) and a major decision by Austin Hoffman at 189 pounds.

The Commodores’ Jackson Angelo won by fall in just 10 seconds at 215 pounds. The Leopards’ Perry Riggle secured a fall in 1:57 at 285 pounds.

There were no bouts at 107 and 114 pounds. Belle Vernon’s Nischal Dahal closed the match with a pin.

Mount Pleasant 58, Brownsville 0 – The Falcons had a rough trip to Mount Pleasant with a non-section loss to the Vikings.

Mount Pleasant’s Nick Stabile (107), Zach Dill (172), Ty Hornick (189), Matthew Mazowiecki (215), and Dylan Pitzer (285) received forfeits.

The Vikings’ Tristan Wtorkiewicz (133), Maxx Fallon (139), Greg Shaulis (145), and Jamison Poklembo (152) won by fall, while Stephen Predajna secured a major decision at 160 pounds.

Girls wrestling

Connellsville 42, Kiski Area 24 – The Lady Falcons returned home with a victory over the Lady Cavaliers.

Connellsville’s Macey Zinsky (106), Kylee Christman (112), Trinity Moore (124), Imani Cameron-Botti (155), and Olivia Shultz (170) all won by forfeit. Jayli Mackey (130) and Kloee Heater (148) won by fall.

Girls basketball

Laurel Highlands 75, Southmoreland 16 – Arianna Sumpter and Aierra Jenkins both finished with double-doubles to lead the Fillies to a Section 3-AAAA road victory.

Sumpter scored 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, both team highs for Laurel Highlands (2-0, 7-0). Jenkins finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Miya Harris (14) and Taylor Schwertfeger (10) also scored in double figures.

Southmoreland slides to 0-1 in the section and 0-6 overall.

Burrell 37, Mount Pleasant 35 – The Lady Bucs edged Mount Pleasant for a win in the Section 3-AAA opener for both teams.

Anna Clark scored a game-high 18 points for Burrell (1-0, 6-0).

Morgan Gesinski scored 12 points and Riley Gesinski added 10 for the Lady Vikings (0-1, 5-2).

Ellis School 32, West Greene 29 – West Greene’s fourth quarter rally came up short in a non-section home loss.

Ellis School (4-5) led 24-13 at halftime and 30-18 after three quarters. West Greene outscored the visitors in the final eight minutes, 11-2.

Kendra Tharp led the Lady Pioneers (1-6) with 11 points. Taelor Spencer also scored 11 points for Ellis School

Fort Cherry 53, Carmichaels 20 – The Lady Rangers led 30-5 at halftime on their way to a non-section road victory.

Megan Voithofer led the Lady Mikes (1-6) with 10 points. Fort Cherry’s Olivia Kemp finished with a game-high 16 points and Raney Staub added 11.

Monessen 43, Brashear 25 – The Lady Greyhounds held a slim 20-18 halftime lead, but outscored the home team in the second half, 23-7, for the non-section win.

MyAsia Majors scored nine points for Monessen (3-1). Ra’Niya Morris finished with a game-high 12 points for Brashear (3-3).

Boys basketball

Albert Gallatin 70, Connellsville 35 – The visiting Colonials scored 29 points in the third quarter to pull away for a non-section road win.

Albert Gallatin (4-2) led 31-20 at halftime and then outscored the Falcons in the third quarter, 29-8.

Blake White (21), Mykel Belt (14), Jason Jackson (12), and Shymere Wilson (10) all scored in double figures for the Colonials.

Jayden Mickens finished with nine points for the Falcons (0-8).

Boys swimming

Mount Pleasant 81, Laurel Highlands 39 – The Vikings were tough at home for a non-section victory over the visiting Mustangs.

Quinn Heinnickel (200 freestyle), Lucas Poole (200 IM), Seth Painter (100 butterfly), Joe Christofano (100 freestyle), and Joseph Gardner (500 freestyle) all won one event for Mount Pleasant.

The Vikings also won the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Mount Pleasant 95, Hempfield 87 – The Vikings slipped by the Spartans Tuesday for a non-section victory.

David Mutter (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Joseph Gardner (200 IM, 100 breaststroke), and Logan Snively (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) all won two events. The Vikings swept the relays.

Girls swimming

Mount Pleasant 85, Laurel Highlands 48 – The Lady Vikings cruised to a non-section win against visiting Laurel Highlands.

Mount Pleasant’s Lainey Brown had two individual first-place finishes, winning the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Lily King (100 butterfly), Morgan Myers (500 freestyle), and Morgan Miller (50 freestyle) all won one event.

The Lady Vikings swept the relays.

Mount Pleasant 103, Hempfield 75 – The Lady Vikings return home Tuesday night with a non-section victory over the Lady Spartans.

Lily King (200 IM, 500 freestyle) and Kiersten O’Connor (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle) won two individual events. Gabby Kinneer (100 backstroke) and Kaylie Korpiel (100 breaststroke) had one first-place finish.

Mount Pleasant won the 200 and 200 freestyle relays. Korpiel (100 breaststroke) and Rayna Wisneski (diving) met the WPIAL qualifying standard.
