Warriors cruise to 42-21 win over Titans

Elizabeth Forward scored three defensive touchdowns Friday night for a 42-21 victory over visiting West Mifflin in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs.

The Warriors (10-1) advance to the semifinals against Avonworth. The Antelopes defeated Beaver, 41-21.

Elizabeth Forward opened the scoring on Dom DeRenzo’s 79-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Charlie Meehlieb added two defensive scores on a fumble recovery and 45-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Warriors led 14-0 after the first quarter, but Armand Hill’s 12-yard run cut the deficit in half in the second quarter. Meehlieb answered with his score on the fumble return.

Elizabeth Forward’s Andrew Grese returned the opening kickoff of the second half 85 yards for a touchdown.

West Mifflin (7-5) kept close in the third quarter, though, with touchdown runs of 16 yards by Armand Hill and 7 yards from DelRon White.

Elizabeth Forward put the game away with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Charlie Nigut scored on a 14-yard run and Meehlieb’s interception return.
