Falcons cap undefeated season with triangular sweep
The Connellsville boys won the Section 2-AAA title without a loss after sweeping a season-ending triangular sweep Wednesday afternoon against Belle Vernon and RInggold.
The Falcons downed host RInggold, 134-16, and defeated the Leopards, 111-39. Belle Vernon (4-2), gained a split with a 108-32 win against the Rams.
Connellsville (6-0) finished first in every event against Ringgold.
The Falcons’ Bryson Edwards swept the jumps with first-place finishes in the high jump (6-1), triple jump (40-11½), and long jump (19-1), and added a fourth first place after winning the 300 intermediate hurdles (42.6).
Noah Lindstrom (1,600, 4:40; 3,200, 10:24) and Nicholas Rohal (discus, 157-6; javelin, 158-3) won two events. Major Stash (100, 11.1), Kasey Stanton (400, 54.3), Edward Stephenson (800, 2:11), Anthony Mickens (200, 23.4), Zachary Franks (pole vault, 12-6), Derek Routzahn (110 high hurdles, 17.9), and Glen Strickler (shot put, 45-0) also finished first against Ringgold.
Belle Vernon’s Ryan White (110 high hurdles), Dane Levi (shot put), and 1,600 relay finished first against Connellsville.
The Belle Vernon girls clinched second place and a playoff berth by defeating Connellsville, 81-69, and Ringgold, 109-37. The Lady Falcons split the meet with a 110-31 victory against Ringgold.
Belle Vernon (4-2) won the 1,600 and 400 relays.
Courtney Martin (100 high hurdles), Tessa Rodriguez (1,600, 800, 3,200), Sienna Steeber (pole vault), Skylar Salay (shot put), and Lily Shahan (javelin) had overall first-place finishes against Connellsville and Ringgold.
The Lady Falcons’ Grace Bosnic (100, 13.1; 300 intermediate hurdles, 49.3; 200, 27.2), Zoey Thomas (400, 1:06), Rylee Leasher (long jump, 15-6), Hannah Jones (triple jump, 29-8), and Madelyn Johnson (discus, 88-0) had overall first-place finishes.
Addison Bandemer (1,600, 6:25), Raigan Keller (3,200, 14:06), Larissa Franks (pole vault), Johnson (shot put, 26-6), and Allison Painter (javelin, 96-8) finished first against Ringgold.
