Resnik, Evans power Lady Warriors to 11-1 victory
Julie Resnik belted a pair of solo home runs and Hannah Evans hit a two-run homer to lead Elizabeth Forward to an 11-1 road victory in Section 2-AAAA action at Belle Vernon.
The Lady Warriors (8-0, 1-10) led 6-0 after three innings. The lead grew to 8-0 after four innings.
Shelby Telegdy allowed three hits, walked one and struck out 10 in the victory. Addyson Nigut finished with two doubles, a single and an RBI.
Katie Sokol hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Lady Leopards (6-4, 11-4).
Bentworth 4, Charleroi 0 — Sydney Gonglik allowed only one hit — a single to Sofia Celaschi — and struck out 15 to lead the Lady Bearcats to a Section 2-AA home victory.
Bentworth (8-0, 10-2) pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Zoie McDonald and Sofia Gaussa doubled, and Kayla O’Dell hit a triple for the Lady Bearcats.
West Greene 6, Jefferson-Morgan 4 — Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert drove in the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning in the Lady Pioneers’ Section 2-A home win.
Gilbert walked two and struck out two, and had two singles and two runs scored. Emmaline Beazell went 3-for-4 and Kendra Tharp doubled for West Greene (6-2, 7-4).
Kayla Larkin and Brooklynne Sndyer both hit run-scoring doubles for the Lady Rockets (4-3, 4-5).
Carmichaels 18, California 2 — Carys McConnell hit a home run and drove in five runs to lead the Lady Mikes to a Section 2-A road victory.
Bailey Barnyak struck out 10 and scattered three hits, and finished with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored for Carmichaels (5-1, 8-2). Kaitlyn Waggett finished with four singles and scored four runs, and Ali Jacobs was a home run away from hitting for the cycle.
Losing pitcher Kera Urick drove in both runs for the Lady Trojans (1-8, 1-10).
Frazier 16, Bishop Canevin 0 — Addison Hiles held the Lady Crusaders hitless and was an error away from a three-inning perfect game for a Section 3-A home victory.
Hiles struck out eight in the victory.
Claire Domonkos led Frazier (7-0, 7-0) with four RBI and two hits. Grace Vaughn and Jayanna Ciferno both tripled and drove in two runs. Maddie Salisbury also drove in two runs.
Burgettstown 5, Beth-Center 2 — Kierra Lamp had two doubles and a single in the Lady Bulldogs’ Section 3-AA loss to Burgettstown.
Kendall Welsh also had three hits for Beth-Center (3-4, 3-4). Burgettstown improves to 4-4 in the section and 5-7 overall.
Laurel Highlands 10, Uniontown 0 — Isabelle Coleman struck out six and scattered four hits in Laurel Highlands’ Section 2-AAAA victory.
Harlie Dirda had three RBI for Laurel Highlands (4-5, 4-6).
Gracie Rodeheaver finished with two hits for the Lady Raiders (7-1, 7-2).
Mount Pleasant 13, Derry 1 — Dani Trainer led the Lady Vikings to a Section 3-AAA victory over the Lady Trojans.
Trainer struck out 10 and had a double, home run, two singles and drove in four runs for Mount Pleasant (3-4, 7-6). Madyson Hart and Emma Leechalk both had two RBI in the victory.
South Park 2, Waynesburg Central 0 — The Lady Raiders were only able to muster two hits off Sydney Sekely in a Section 4-AAA loss to the Lady Eagles.
Gina Tedrow also had a strong outing for Waynesburg (4-4, 6-8) with a one-hitter and 16 strikeouts.
South Park (7-0, 11-1) scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning for the win.
Thomas Jefferson 11, Connellsville 0 — The Lady Jaguars shut out Connellsville for a Section 4-AAAAA win.
Emma DeSimone hit a grand slam and Zoe Krizan and Morgan Alisesky also hit home runs for Thomas Jefferson (5-3, 7-5). Connellsville goes to 5-3 in the section and 9-5 overall.
Baseball
Belle Vernon 13, Thomas Jefferson 5 — Lucas Judy and Adam LaCarte both drove in three runs to lead the Leopards to a non-section win.
Carson Matusik finished with two singles and a double for Belle Vernon (11-2). Thomas Jefferson goes to 13-2 overall.
