Rockets shut out California, 4-0

Jefferson-Morgan scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 4-0 victory Friday afternoon over visiting California in a Section 1-A game.

Deakyn Dehoet scored the first run of the game in the third inning when he led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored on Brayden Ellsworth’s sacrifice fly.

The inning continued when Brock Bayles doubled with two outs and John Woodward was safe on an infield error. Both scored on Brenton Barnhart’s double.

Jefferson-Morgan (4-6, 6-6) added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Woodward started and went 5.1 innings for the win. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out 11. Bayles picked up the final five outs for the save after striking out three, walking one and allowing one hit.

Chase Cicchitto doubled for the Trojans.

Elizabeth Forward 2, Ringgold 1 – The Warriors’ AJ Greese doubled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning for a non-section win over the visiting Rams.

The game was scoreless through eight innings.

Ringgold scored the game’s first run in the top of the ninth inning on Eddie Frizzell’s RBI single.

Elizabeth Forward tied the game in the bottom of the inning on Nate Grimm’s sacrifice fly.

Ringgold’s Tyler Fisher, Alex Kolano and Andrew Sprinkle all had two hits. JB Crovak had a double and two singles for the Warriors.

Jacob Peterson pitched the last three innings to earn the win. Frizzell took the loss.
