LHĢƵ Brown, Pulice win FCCA MVP awards
YORK RUN – The Laurel Highlands girls dominated the top honors Saturday in the annual FCCA Track & Field meet held at Albert Gallatin.
Diondra Brown won the 100, 200 and 400, and added a fourth-place finish with the 400 relay.
Lexie Pulice placed second in the pole vault, third in the high jump, fourth in the triple jump, and fifth in the long jump.
Brown and Pulice helped the Fillies retain the team title with 158 points.
Brown won the 100 in 12.69 seconds and 200 in 26 seconds. The sophomore is new to the 400, but her inexperience didn’t bother her with a gold medal run of 1:02.65.
“There was definitely speed in the 100. I had good competition,” said Brown. “This was my first 400. It was a good 400. I was pretty pleased with how I ran.
“And, it was back-to-back with the 4×100, so it was a tiring race.”
Brown said winning MVP honors was in the back of her mind.
“A little bit. I was hoping to get something,” added Brown.
PuliceĢƵ meet spanned two days with the pole vault competition Friday on her home track.
The senior cleared 9 feet for the silver medal in the pole vault. She was one of several girls to clear 4-5 in the high jump, but won the tiebreaker for the bronze medal.
Pulice flew 30-½ four fourth place in the triple jump and went 14-8 in the long jump, despite being a novice in both events.
“This is my first year ever trying triple and today was my first day ever trying the long jump,” explained Pulice. “I did okay in the long jump. I got third in high jump, it wasn’t a super good day.”
Pulice was not necessarily focused on personal achievement. She just wanted to do her part to help her squad win the team title.
“I just wanted us to win the county meet and help us get some points because if we win today, we will win every single year I ran track in high school,” said Pulice.
