Red Raiders, Leopards have successful return to Section 2-AAA play

The Uniontown boys had a successful return to Section 2-AAA play on Monday with a 230-251 victory over visiting Albert Gallatin at Uniontown Country Club.

Trevor Uphold had medalist honors for the Red Raiders (1-0, 1-0) with 4-over 40. Emily Myers shot 45. Colton Mathias and Brody Schiffbauer both shot 48. Eli Friend closed out the scoring with 49. Johnny Vansickle’s 56 was not used.

Hayden Metts was the low man for the Colonials (0-1, 0-1) with 47. Tyler Felio and Caeden Williams both carded 49. Geno Valenti and Trent Clemmer both finished with 53. Hunter Bowlen’s 61 was not counted.

Belle Vernon 182, Ringgold 239 – The Leopards’ return to Section 2-AAA was successful with a road win over the Rams at Rolling Green Golf Course.

Jordan Mocello had medalist honors for Belle Vernon (1-0, 3-0) with 32. Seth Tomalski carded 34. Jack Edwards fired a 36 and Donny Croftcheck finished with 37. Wyatt Lukas’ 43 rounded out the scoring. Lucas Judy’s 46 was not used.

Evan Callaway had a solid round for Ringgold (0-1, 0-1) with 36. Evan Anderson shot 42. Brice Kowall (49), Trevor Benson (56), and Kolten Dewar (56) closed out the scoring rounds.

Connellsville 201, McKeesport 242 — Eli Armstrong and Hunter Konieczny shared medalist honors to lead the visiting Falcons to a Section 2-AAA victory over the Tigers at Butler’s Golf Course’s Woodside course.

Armstrong and Konieczny both fired 1-over 37 in the victory for the Falcons (1-0, 1-0).

Derek Routzahn shot 41, Michael Roscart carded 42, and Ethan Porreca finished with 44. William Gillott’s 46 was not used.

Brock Stephenson was the low man for the Tigers (0-1, 0-1) with 45.

Waynesburg Central 195, Bentworth 232 – The Raiders were tough at home on Rohanna’s Golf Course for a season-opening Section 3-AA victory over the Bearcats.

Chase Phillips led the way for Waynesburg (1-0, 1-0) with a 3-over 36. Joe Kirsch and Dom Benamati both shot 39. Jarett Tretinik finished with 40 and Aiden Titus closed the scoring with 41. Rykan Gustafson’s 42 did not count.

Ross Skerbetz had scoring honors for Bentworth (0-1, 0-1) with 41. Wyatt Snyder (42), Sam Wade (45), Craig McDonald (48), and Blake Reed (56) rounded out the scoring. Trent Wolpink’s 58 was not used.

Chartiers-Houston 231, Carmichaels 235 – The Bucs edged the visiting Mikes for a non-section victory at the Golf Club of Washington.

Connor Lapana was the low man for Carmichaels (0-1) with 6-over 42. Nathan Dursa finished with 47, and Zach Murphy, Aydan Bate and Jase Zdravcky all shot 49. Eli Hastings’ 58 did not count.

Chartiers-Houston’s JoJo Jaskulski was medalist with 3-over 39. Nate Gregory shot 41 for the Bucs (1-0).

Derry 233, Southmoreland 248 – The Scotties opened Section 2-AA play with a loss to the visiting Trojans at Donegal Highlands Golf Course.

Brody Charnesky was the low man for Southmoreland with 43.

Aiden Darazio, Jacob Silva and Gio Beatrice all shot 46 for Derry.

Jefferson-Morgan 215, Brownsville 299 – The Rockets opened the Section 3-AA schedule with a victory over visiting Brownsville at Greene County Country Club.

Urijah Teasdale led the way for Jefferson-Morgan (1-0, 1-0) with a 1-over 37. Clay Wilson also broke 40 with 39. Dayten Marion and Jack Shaffer both shot 44. Brayden Ellsworth closed out the scoring with 51. Brendan Wood’s 61 was not counted.

Benjamin Vojacek was the low man for first-year coach Nick Eady with 42. Dominic Capan (57), Ava Rohland (63), Camden Kline (65), and Kaitlyn Ranka (72) rounded out the scoring for the Falcons (0-1, 0-1).

The Rockets opened the season Friday in the annual TriCADA tournament at Nemacolin Country Club with a team score of 480. Teasdale was just outside the small school top 10 with a score of 79.

Seton-La Salle 218, Frazier 218 – The Rebels won the playoff, 13-17, for a Section 8-AA home victory at Mt. Lebanon Golf Course.

Regis Manion carded a two. Jack Lestitian scored three and Parker Hazaga and John Dolan both finished with four in the playoff. Frazier’s Dylan Keilbach, Aidan Hardy and Travis Smith all scored four in the playoff, and Eli Cernuska shot a five.).

Smith was the low man for the Commodores (0-1, 0-1) with 42. Keilbach, Hardy and Cernuska all shot 43, and Tyler Monack closed the scoring with 47. John Sinclair’s 57 did not count.

Manion had medalist honors for Seton-La Salle (1-0, 1-0) with 37. Dolan shot 40. Hazaga carded 45, and Lestitian and Patrick Weldon both finished with 48.

Jerry Roman Memorial Tournament – The Mount Pleasant boys finished first in the five-team tournament held at Cedarbrook Golf Course with a team score of 442.

Aydan Gross was the low man for the Vikings with 79. Ryan Karfelt shot 85. Nicol Pisula and Austyn Gross both finished with 91. Darren Kinneer and Tanner Frye both shot 96.

Sewickley Academy finished a close second with 444. Greensburg C.C. shot 447. Conemaugh Twp. finished with a team score of 448. Ligonier Valley posted a team score of 504.

Girls golf

Penn-Trafford 189, Connellsville 259 – The Lady Falcons had a tough trip to Manor Valley Golf Course with a 189-259 loss to Penn-Trafford in the Section 3-AA opener.

Rylee Leasher and Katie Atz shared low honors for Connellsville (0-1, 0-1) with 59. Abigail Humbert finished with 68 and Isabella Nussbaumer carded 73.

Corryn Cigich was medalist for the Lady Warriors (1-0, 1-0) with 45. Isabella Fontana (47), Marielle Wilson (49), and Ayla Moffa (48) rounded out the scoring.

Elizabeth Forward 166, Southmoreland 202 – The Lady Warriors posted a school record score for a non-section road victory at Donegal Highlands Golf Course.

Mya Morgan led the way for Elizabeth Forward with an even-par 35. Sydney Boyd (42), Annalise Didjunas (44), and Alizabeth Leezer (45) rounded out the scoring in the victory.

Kendall Campbell was the low golfer for the Lady Scots with 46. Zoey Provlic (49), Claire Lehman (52), and Rachael Ayres (55) also counted in the final score.
