Scotties roll to 49-14 win over visiting Wildcats
Elliot Premus caught two touchdowns passes and ran for another Friday night in Southmoreland’s 49-14 non-conference victory over visiting East Allegheny.
Premus had touchdown receptions of 20 and 62 from Anthony Smith, and added a 53-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter out of the wildcat formation. Premus caught six passes for 127 yards. He also gained 71 yards rushing on three carries.
Makel Darnell scored two touchdowns. The first was on a 45-yard run midway through the first quarter. The run came on the first play after a free kick as a result of Jackson Mickens tackling quarterback Cedric Mack in the end zone. Darnell added a 34-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter.
Smith not only threw for three touchdowns, but also had a 9-yard rushing touchdown. Smith completed 11-of-23 passes from 189 yards and an interception.
Stanley Chapman ran for a 19-yard score early in the fourth quarter for the Scotties (2-0).
Ethan Shawley led all Southmoreland rushers with 73 yards on 10 carries.
Mack completed 10-of-28 passes for 11 yards and four interceptions. He had a 38-yard touchdown pass to Demarjae Warren. Warren also scored on a 75-yard interception return.
Meadville 48, Connellsville 41, OT – Caden Mathews threw for over 300 yards, but the Bulldogs edged the Falcons in overtime for a non-conference road victory in overtime.
Mathews had a touchdown pass to Farrell to open overtime, but the conversion failed.
Jacoby Thompson answered on the next drive, but the point-after was blocked. Tymer Phillips gave Meadville the lead on the next possession.
Linkon Keller scored on a short run and Derek Routzahn’s point-after tied the game.
Both teams turned the ball over on their next possessions.
Thompson once again gave Meadville the lead, and this time it stood when the Meadville defense forced a turnover on Connellsville’s posssesion.
Mathews found Farrell open for a 13-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and Routzahn’s point-after spotted the Falcons a 7-0 lead.
Mathews again was the key in the Falcons’ second scoring drive. His 55-yard completion to Major Stash moved the ball deep into Meadville territory. The duo capped the drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass for a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.
Meadville scored, but the Falcons answered late in the second quarter. Mathews again spurred the offense in the long drive with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Farrell for a 21-6 halftime lead.
Meadville rolled down the field after taking the kickoff to start the second half. Thompson capped the long drive on a 2-yard run and the two-point conversion run.
Connellsville’s lead grew to 28-14 after the Falcons’ converted Keller’s interception in a 47-yard touchdown pass from Mathews to Stash.
Thompson’s 6-yard touchdown run sliced Connellsville’s lead to 28-21, and he scored the tying touchdown with 2:37 left in the game.
Mount Pleasant 36, Greensburg C.C. 35, OT – Steven Predajna’s two-point run was the difference in the Vikings’ overtime road victory.
Predajna scored the touchdown on a 16-yard pass from Cole Chatfield that set up his game-winning conversion.
Brody Hutter’s short touchdown runs and Jarett Garn’s points-after spotted the Vikings (1-1) a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. Hutter finished with a team-high 87 yards rushing.
Samir Crosby responded with a 3-yard run later in the second quarter, but the point-after was missed. The Centurions cut the deficit to a point on Crosby’s 1-yard run and Jerry Davis’ extra point in the third quarter
The Vikings regained the lead later in the quarter on Garn’s 41-yard sprint to the end zone and his extra point.
Greensburg C.C. tied the game with 10:27 remaining in regulation on Crosby’s 44-yard pass to Landon Honick. Crosby added the two-point run.
Predajna scored the first touchdown in overtime on a 10-yard run. Garn added the extra point.
Crosby found Jackson McMullen open for a 7-yard touchdown and Davis added the extra point to tie the game.
Crosby scored on a 1-yard touchdown and Davis was true on the point-after.
Crosby completed 13-of-28 passes for 218 yards and one interception. He also ran for 124 yards.
Albert Gallatin 42, Carrick 6 – The Colonials scored 38 points in the first half for a non-conference home victory.
Nasir Moore scored two touchdowns in the first half. The first was a 27-yard run in the first quarter and the second was a 45-yard sprint to the end zone in the second quarter.
Xavier Rice also ran for two touchdowns for the Colonials (1-1), a 49-yard run in the first quarter and 5-yard rush in the fourth quarter.
Adam Pegg opened the scoring with a 7-yard rushing touchdown.
Monessen 62, West Greene 6 – Tyvaughn Kershaw scored five touchdowns as the Greyhounds (2-0) raced past the visiting Pioneers in a non-conference game.
Kershaw scored on TD runs of 75, 60 and 25 yards, returned a punt 84 yards for a touchdown and hauled in a 13-yard scoring pass from Dennis Hawkins.
Tim Kershaw added touchdown runs of 46 and 42 yards and took back an interception 89 yards for a TD.
West Greene (0-2) scored its lone touchdown on a 20-yard pass by Lane Allison to Parker Burns.
Cornell 27, California 3 – After racking up 62 points in their opener the Trojans could only muster a 35-yard field goal by Christian Ross in a non-conference loss at Cornell.
Walter Clarit’s 8-yard touchdown run in the first quarter gave the Raiders (2-0) all the points they would need. Khylil Johnson’s 14-yard run sparked a 21-point second quarter for Cornell.
Leechburg 42, Beth-Center 8 – Jaylen Floyd threw three touchdown passes and ran for two scores as host Leechburg cruised past the visiting Bulldogs in a non-conference game.
Beth-Center (1-0), playing its first game of the season, scored its only TD on a 78-yard touchdown pass by Jonah Sussan to Santino Revi.
Highlands 53, Elizabeth Forward 52, OT – Menage Lucas ran for the two-point conversion after scoring on a 10-yard run for the deciding points in the Rams’ overtime non-conference home victory.
The Warriors’ Charlie Nigut scored three touchdowns, including the game-tying 49-yard run in the fourth quarter and a 10-yard score in overtime.
Ryan Messina threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Nigut. He had two rushing touchdowns, including a 10-yard score in overtime.
Elizabeth Forward’s Luke Holdren made a 25-yard field goal and both extra points in overtime. Highlands’ Jackson Babinsak made a 26-yard field goal and one point-after in overtime.
Burgettstown 11, Bentworth 6 – The Blue Devils scored all 11 points in a span of 17 seconds late in the third quarter for a non-conference road victory.
Colton County made a 22-yard field goal with 32 seconds left in the third quarter. Burgettstown scored on the ensuing drive when William Stevenson recovered a fumble for a 5-yard touchdown return.
Bentworth’s Ben Hays scored on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Tristan Hacksnson with 1:07 left in the game. Hays caught five passes for 85 yards.
Bentworth attempted an onside kick, but was penalized for offsides.
Belle Vernon at Aliquippa, canceled – The Quips scored two touchdowns in the first quarter before their game against visiting Belle Vernon was canceled due to weather. It will not be made up.
Aliquippa got touchdown runs of 2 yards by Tiqwai Hayes and 16 yards by SaNir Brooks before the game was called.
Carmichaels at Sto-Rox, canceled – The Mikes games at Sto-Rox was canceled due to weather with the score tied 8-8 in the second quarter.
