Lady Raiders roll to 70-37 victory at Ringgold

Four Uniontown players scored in double figures Monday night to lead the Lady Raiders to a 70-37 Section 3-AAAA road victory at Ringgold.

Emily Myers led Uniontown (1-3, 3-7) with a game-high 19 points. A’Kira Dade (18), Lyric McLee (12), and Geelece Ingram (10) also finished in double figures.

Uniontown led 18-10, 36-19 and 51-32 at the quarter breaks.

Rihanna Fordham led the Lady Rams (1-3, 3-7) with 11 points.

Laurel Highlands 33, Belle Vernon 28 – Laurel Highlands won the low-scoring Section 3-AAAA game at Belle Vernon.

The Lady Leopards (3-2, 6-6) led 6-5 after the first quarter. Laurel Highlands surged to a 17-8 halftime lead. Belle Vernon cut the gap to 23-15 at the end of the third quarter, and rallied for a 13-10 advantage in the final eight minutes.

Ayrianna Sumpter scored a game-high 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Fillies (3-1, 10-1). Aierra Jenkins finished with 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Kenzi Seliga scored eight points and Caroline Lee finished with a game-high 11 rebounds for Belle Vernon.

West Mifflin 48, Southmoreland 19 – The Lady Titans held Southmoreland to single digits in each quarter for a Section 3-AAAA home victory.

West Mifflin (4-0, 6-4) led 19-5, 31-12 and 48-17 at the quarter breaks.

Bea Pawlikowsky scored eight points for the Lady Scots (0-4, 0-11).

Savaughn Wims finished with 20 points and Kendall Lee added 15 for the Lady Titans.

Latrobe 65, Albert Gallatin 41 – The Lady Wildcats pulled away in the second quarter for a Section 3-AAAAA road victory.

Latrobe (2-2, 6-6) led 14-11 after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 32-20 at halftime.

Mya Glisan led the Lady Colonials (0-5, 3-1) with 14 points. Grayce Panos scored 13 and Mikayla Shea added 11.

Elle Snyder led the way for Latrobe with a game-high 30 points. Carley Berk finished with 13 points.

Shady Side Academy 64, Mount Pleasant 20 – Shady Side Academy led 20-8 after the first quarter on its way to a Section 3-AAA road victory.

Grace Arrigo scored six points for the Lady Vikings (1-2, 8-4).

Maggie Spell finished with a game-high 24 points for Shady Side Academy (3-0, 9-2). Karis Thomas scored 20 points and Cassie Sauer added 14.

South Park 68, Charleroi 29 – The Lady Eagles scored 53 points in the first half for a Section 4-AAA road victory.

South Park (2-0, 6-3) led 53-18 at halftime.

Bella Carotto paced the Lady Cougars (0-2, 5-5) with 15 points.

Hayley Bennett (18), Nika Contakos (12), and Andrea Kuczma (10) all scored in double digits for South Park.

Waynesburg Central 37, Yough 31 – Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, but the Lady Raiders picked up the pace enough in the second half for a Section 4-AAA road victory.

Waynesburg Central (3-0, 12-1) led 7-5 at halftime and 20-17 after three quarters.

The Lady Raiders’ Kaley Rohanna and Avery Davis both scored 12 points.

Autumn Matthews led Yough (1-1, 6-5) with a game-high 14 points.

McGuffey 45, Brownsville 42 – The visiting Lady Highlanders held on for a Section 4-AAA road victory.

The Lady Falcons (0-2, 7-6) led 14-12 after the first quarter and 21-17 at halftime.

McGuffey (1-2, 10-2) rallied in the third quarter for a 36-27 lead. Brownsville fought back in the final quarter with a 15-9 advantage.

The Lady Falcons’ Ava Clark shared game-scoring honors with 20 points. Skyler Gates added 16 points.

McGuffey’s Taylor Schumacher scored 20 points.

California 34, Bentworth 26 – The Lady Trojans put the Section 4-AA game away with 16 points in the fourth quarter for a Section 4-AA road victory.

California (3-1, 6-4) led 8-7 after the first quarter. The game was tied, 13-13, at halftime.

The Lady Trojans regained the lead after three quarters, 18-17.

Madyson Morton paced California with a game-high 12 points. Rakiyah Porter added 10 points.

Amber Sallee scored 10 points for Bentworth (0-5, 3-10).

Chartiers-Houston 63, Frazier 26 – The Lady Bucs scored 26 points in the first quarter for a Section 4-AA road win at Frazier.

Chartiers-Houston (5-0, 8-4) led 38-17 at halftime.

Malana Burton had a double-double for the Lady Commodores (1-3, 4-7) with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Chloe Harger also scored 11 points.

The Lady Bucs’ Allison Wingard scored a game-high 18 points. Amelia Brose (12), Ava Capozzoli (11), and Ella Richey (10) all scored in double figures.

Geibel Catholic 59, Mapletown 43 – Emma Larkin and Ava Henderson combined for 51 points in the Lady Gators’ Section 2-A win over the visiting Lady Maples.

Larkin led the way for Geibel (2-1, 9-3) with 29 points. Henderson finished with 22 points.

The Lady Gators led 18-13, 29-25 and 43-29 at the quarter breaks.

Isabella Carreck scored 16 points and McKenna Lotspeich added 15 for Mapletown (2-1, 5-7).

Elizabeth Forward 57, River Valley 42 – The Lady Warriors scored 41 points in the second half to rally for a non-section road victory.

Elizabeth Forward trailed 28-16 at halftime. The Lady Warriors (9-2) outscored the home team in the second half, 42-14.

Michelle Jellison led Elizabeth Forward with 20 points. Chloe Zombek scored 17 points and Alyssa Terza finished with 10 points in the win.

Ava Persichetti paced River Valley with 17 points. Alessia Lamentia added 10.

Boys swimming

Belle Vernon 63, East Allegheny 38 – The Leopards secured a non-section victory over the Wildcats.

Tim Reda (200 freestyle, Tim Reda), Derek Milkovich (200 IM, 100 butterfly), Gaige Watson (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Gianni Pesi (100 freestyle), and Brian Nguyen (500 freestyle) all finished first for Belle Vernon.

The Leopards (4-3) swept the relays.

Girls swimming

Belle Vernon 79, East Allegheny 52 – The Lady Leopards downed East Allegheny for a non-section victory.

Martyna Maley (200 IM), Grace Newbould (50 freestyle), Melina Stratigos (100 butterfly, 500 freestyle), and Megan Shusteric (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke) won individual events for Belle Vernon.

The Lady Leopards (4-3) won all three relays.

Men’s basketball

Penn State Fayette 132, Appalachian Bible (W.Va.) 44 – The Lions poured on the points for a non-conference home victory.

Jahmere Richardson poured in a game-high 40 points. Matt Forbes finished with 31 points. Dasilas Jones (10), William Powell (15), Sam Toso (10), and DeVean Reed (11) also scored in double figures. Emmanuel Dotson grabbed 10 rebounds and scored nine points.

Trey Smith led the visitors with 13 points.

Hockey

Connellsville 7, Sewickley Academy 2 – The visiting Falcons scored three goals in the first period on their way to a PIHL D2 Division road victory.

Connellsville improves to 5-8-0-0-0, while the Panthers slide to 0-12-0-1-0.

Braden Rogerson, Tyler Cook and Nolan Wojnar all scored once to give Connellsville (5-8-0-0-0) a 3-1 lead in the first period.

Evan Sokol netted the lone power play goal of the game just 1:21 into the second period for a 4-1 lead. TJ Snyder’s goal 13 minutes later increased the lead to 5-2.

Sokol scored his second goal of the game in the third period. William Wittaker III also scored for the Falcons.

The Falcons’ Nick Daniels-Nimick stopped 12 shots in the victory. Sewickley Academy’s Jack Carlson turned aside 37 of the 44 shots he faced.
