Lady Leopards defeat South Allegheny, 56-33

The Belle Vernon girls pulled away in the third quarter for a 56-33 non-section victory Saturday over South Allegheny.

The Lady Leopards (7-7) led 23-17 at halftime and then outscored the Lady Gladiators in the third quarter, 20-6.

Belle Vernon’s Kenzi Seliga had a solid all-around performance with 16 points, six assists and four steals. Caroline Lee pulled down nine rebounds.

Amina Shea and Emily Beaumont both scored six points for South Allegheny (4-10).

Charleroi 62, California 47 – The Lady Cougars held a 10-point advantage after the first quarter and made the lead stand for a non-section win over the Lady Trojans.

Charleroi (6-7) held a 34-19 advantage in the first and third quarters. The teams played to a 28-28 tie in the other quarters.

Belle Carroto led the Lady Cougars with a game-high 27 points. Ella Sypolt finished with 13 points and Riley Jones added 10.

Hayley Gibson scored 22 points for California (5-5).

Eden Christian Academy 50, West Greene 27 – The Lady Pioneers fell behind early and were not able to rally in a non-section loss to Eden Christian Academy.

Kasey Meek led West Greene (3-8) with 13 points.

Hope Haring scored a game-high 21 points for Eden Christian Academy (8-6). Emmie Smith added 12.

Clairton 63, Frazier 27 – Iyanna Wade outscored the Lady Commodores to lead Clairton to a non-section victory.

Wade poured in a game-high 43 points for the Lady Bears (10-2). Malana Burton scored eight points for Frazier (5-8).

Women’s basketball

Penn State Schuylkill 58, Penn State Fayette 47 – The home team rallied for the lead in the second quarter and added to its advantage in the third quarter for a PSUAC victory over Penn State Fayette.

Schuylkill led 23-21 at halftime and grew to 40-27 after three quarters.

Reagan Rudder scored a team-high nine points. Sophia Zalar added eight.

Ava Novak led Schuylkill (3-5, 6-10) with 21 points. Jasmine Wright (11) and Allison Crocket (10) also scored in double figures.

Men’s basketball

Penn State Schuylkill 96, Penn State Fayette 87 – Penn State Fayette trailed by 13 at halftime for a PSUAC road loss.

Penn State Schuylkill (4-4, 7-11) led 52-39 at halftime.

Dasilas Jones scored 27 for Fayette (4-5, 7-8). Torian Jenkins finished with 25 points and Matt Forbes added 16.

Makhi Jones (28), Antwuan Byrd (20), Dashawn Dixon (18), and Amir Gray (16) finished in double figures for Penn State Schuylkill.

Slippery Rock 89, California (Pa.) 72 – The Vulcans shot just 26.7 percent from the field in a PSAC-West Conference home loss.

California goes to 7-2 in the conference and 13-2 overall. Slippery Rock improves to 4-4 in the PSAC-West and 6-8 overall.

KJ McClurg led the Vulcans with 34 points, his fifth 30-point performance of the season. Bryson Lucas scored 16 points.

Slippery Rock’s Ike Herster scored a career-high 36 points.
