CONNELLSVILLE – The field in the Connellsville Duals Saturday was a little thinner because of the adverse weather conditions, but the four teams who did show put in a solid dayĢƵ work.

Bedford declined earlier and Cathedral Prep withdrew late, leaving a lineup of host Connellsville, Frazier, North Allegheny and Latrobe.

The Falcons defeated Frazier in their opening bout of the day, 54-15.

North Allegheny downed Frazier, 63-11, and edged Connellsville, 28-25.

The Falcons recently defeated Latrobe section play, so only exhibition matches were held against the Wildcats. Latrobe won a 60-13 decision over the Commodores.

The marquis bout of the first match featured ConnellsvilleĢƵ Lonzy Vielma and FrazierĢƵ Ryan Celaschi. Celaschi won the 160-bout with a 7-2 decision.

Celaschi finished the day of wrestling with three wins after a major decision against LatrobeĢƵ Bradan Bronson and 16-1 technical fall over North AlleghenyĢƵ Nathan Orlando.

ConnellsvilleĢƵ Nick Rohal pinned Tanner Haller in 42 seconds at 172 pounds. Rohal lost a 9-3 decision to North AlleghenyĢƵ Kellen Buggey.

With the section schedule ending this week, both wrestlers wanted to use the competition to prepare for the WPIAL tournament.

“I wanted to see what I needed to work on. I wanted to see what I’m doing well and what I’m not doing well,” said Celaschi.

Celaschi said he did both in his bout against Vielman.

“I rode on top very well. I definitely need to work on my shot defense,” said Celaschi. “ThereĢƵ nothing really big I can change, just those little things I need to work on.”

Celaschi welcomed the opportunity to face bigger schools.

“The AAA teams have a lot better kids at each weight,” said Celaschi.

The junior looks to build on last yearĢƵ results when he won WPIAL gold at 152 pounds and placed second in the regional tournament.

“I have to keep my composure. I lost my composure, got frustrated and lost points,” explained Celaschi.

Rohal was looking forward to facing one particular wrestler, but it didn’t come to pass.

“I wanted to wrestle LatrobeĢƵ Hunter Snyder. He bumped up (in the section match),” said Rohal after the Frazier match. “I want to go after the North Allegheny guy.

“I wanted to get a quick pin (in the Frazier match), and thatĢƵ what I did.”

Rohal detailed what he needs to work on for the WPIAL team and individual tournaments.

“I want to try to improve my shooting skills. I don’t do it well, as opposed to muscling everyone. I used to be able to (out-muscle wrestlers), but now that I’m bigger, itĢƵ tougher,” explained Rohal. “I want to be a little more conditioned. I feel my condition is fine, but I want to gas them more.”

“I want to be higher up in the rankings. I haven’t had a chance to prove myself.”

ConnellsvilleĢƵ Nolan Rice (107) and Landon Lynn (114) received forfeits to open the Frazier match.

The Falcons’ Zachary Franks pinned Tanner Hayes at 1:05 at 121 pounds. Chase Sparks followed with a 7-1 decision at 127 pounds against FrazierĢƵ Chase Celaschi.

Kai Vielma secured an 8-3 decision at 133 pounds against FrazierĢƵ Tyler Clark.

ConnellsvilleĢƵ Julian Ruggieri pinned Adam Kortina with only 15 seconds remaining in the 139-pound bout.

The Falcons’ Evan Petrovich needed only 40 seconds to pin Chris Petruska at 145 pounds. Teammate Chris Cook won by fall in 3:02 over FrazierĢƵ Josh Girvin at 215 pounds, and Tyler Gallis closed at 285 pounds with a pin in the first minute against Conner Reams.

Andrew Bandish got Frazier on board with his first-period pin of Carter Wilson at 152 pounds. Teammate Jackson Angelo won by fall at 2:27 at 189 pounds against Crue Harwell.

The Falcons’ match against North Allegheny seesawed with the Tigers getting big pins late in the match.

Gus Stedeford won a decision at 121 pounds and Casey Walker secured a 10-2 major decision for a 7-0 lead.

Connellsville cut the gap with Kai VielmaĢƵ 9-2 decision at 133 pounds and RuggieriĢƵ 6-4 sudden-victory at 139 pounds.

The Tigers’ Gabriel Hernandez won an 11-6 decision at 145 pounds, but Connellsville pulled into its first lead after Petrovich won his 152-bout by injury default and Lonzy Vielma won with a first-period fall at 160 pounds.

North Allegheny came back with Kellen BuggeyĢƵ decision at 172 pounds and Mason HartungĢƵ win by fall at 189 pounds. The Tigers continued their run at 285 pounds when Bradyn McConneha won by disqualification.

Connellsville still had a chance with two bouts remaining.

Rice won a 7-3 decision at 107 pounds and Lynn captured a 10-2 major decision 114 pounds.

Angelo won his 189-pound bout against North AlleghenyĢƵ Mason Hartung with a pin at 3:56 and received a forfeit against Latrobe.

Clark won by decision against LatrobeĢƵ Ausin Laidacker at 133 pounds.
