Four of a kind: Local quartet earns top honors for solid seasons
Laurel Highlands junior Jaden Brambley and California junior Ella Neil both cleared the bar for a pair of postseason medals, Geibel Catholic sophomore Emma Larkin successfully ran distances from the 100 through the 800, plus the 300 intermediate hurdles, and Southmoreland sophomore Megan Mehall excelled in the middle distances and 3,200 relay.
The quartet led the way throughout the season to share recognition as the top performers on the 2024 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Girls All-Area Track & Field Team.

NOTES: Brambley won the county title, placed third in the WPIAL and seventh in the state in the pole vault. … Neil finished tied for seventh in high jump at the WPIAL meet, but tied for fifth in the state meet at the same height, 5-2. … Neil also competed in the triple jump in the WPIAL Class AA meet. … Neil won Section 6-AA titles in the high jump and long jump. … Mehall finished fifth in the 400, and then came back under threatening skies after a long delay in the WPIAL final for silver in the 800. She capped her season by finishing sixth in the 800 at the state meet. … Mehall also ran a leg on the Lady Scots’ 3,200 relay that was fourth in the WPIAL Class AA final. … Larkin entered the WPIAL Class AA Championship with the fastest seed time in the 300 intermediate hurdles, but was disqualified from the timed final after the officials hit her with a false start. Larkin managed to gather herself to finish sixth in the 800. … Larkin had success in the 100 and 200 through section meets to the county meet, dropping the sprints to concentrate on the intermediate hurdles and 800. … Local female athletes amassed 15 total medals in the WPIAL meet with one silver, one bronze, two fourth-place, fifth-place and sixth-place medals, five seven places and two eighth-place finishes. … The group added three state medals. … Brown won two WPIAL medals in her first district meet. She won the FCCA Track MVP, while teammate Lexie Pulice was the Field MVP. … Reed finished seventh in the 300 intermediate hurdles, just .13 seconds short of a PIAA automatic berth. … McGavitt was six inches shy of an automatic qualifying distance in the WPIAL Class AA javelin. … A’zyia Dade swept the 100 and 200 in the Section 6-AA Championship, and finished second behind Brown in both sprints at the county meet. … Trimmer won the 1,600 and 3,200 in the FCCA Championship and qualified for the WPIAL finals in the 3,200. Trimmer was .22 seconds from making the WPIAL medals stand. … Medved had a solid spring with gold in the 800 and a second-place finish in the 1,600 in the county meet. … Pegg and his staff led the Laurel Highlands girls to county and Section 2-AAA team titles. … Fowler and the Waynesburg Central staff guided the Lady Raiders to a Section 6-AA title.
