Belle Vernon Legion cruises to 17-7 home victory
Colton Lee drove in four runs to lead Belle Vernon to a 17-7 home victory over visiting Charleroi in Fayette County American Legion Baseball League action.
Belle Vernon led 3-2 after the first inning and broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Lee’s bases-loaded triple cleared the bases. Kole Doppelheuer drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk.
Charleroi cut into its deficit with five runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Ben Shields had a two-run double. Jake Beveridge drove in a run with a single, and the other two runs scored on errors.
Belle Vernon countered with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Alex Nash drove in two runs with a triple and Mitchell Vuick added a run-scoring single.
Belle Vernon invoked the mercy rule with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Mason Suss earned the win in relief of Charlie Nigut, who tripled in the win.
Jake Wessel led the Belle Vernon attack with a double, two singles and three runs scored. Kayden Faychak scored four runs.
Eddie Frizzell doubled for one of Charleroi’s four hits and drove in a run.
Connellsville 15, Smithfield-Fairchance 2 – Matthew Firestone doubled and drove in five runs in Connellsville’s Fayette County American Legion Baseball League road victory.
Chase Sankovich, Cohen Groh and Anthony Piasecki all finished with two hits and two RBI for Connellsville (8-3).
Aiden Newmyer picked up the win.
Lucas Wilson and Evan Weakland singled for Smithfield-Fairchance.
Connellsville 9, Charleroi 3 – Jake Lee drove in four runs with a double and single in Sunday’s victory at Charleroi.
Firestone contributed a single, triple and RBI to the victory. Sankovich drove in two runs, and Logan Lowery and Newmeyer both had an RBI.
Lowery went the distance for the victory with four strikeouts.
Jace Pager had a double and single for Charleroi (6-4). Ben Shields struck out seven in the loss.
