Mill Run edges visiting WBAC, 2-1
Jonathan Kelly scored the deciding run on a wild pitch in Mill Run’s 2-1 victory over visiting WBAC Tuesday night in Fayette County Baseball League action.
Kelly was safe on an error with one out in the bottom of the third inning and moved to third on Josh Burns’ double. Kace Shearer walked to load the bases, and Kelly came home on a wild pitch.
WBAC (1-5-1) scored in the top of the first inning after Colby Simmons opened the game with a double and came home on Michael Coll’s single.
Mill Run (5-4) tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Burns walked and Shearer was safe on an error that sent Burns to third. Burns scored on Cade Warrick’s ground out.
Winning pitcher Beau Bigam pitched out of trouble a couple of times in his five innings of work.
Trevor Stewart led off the second inning with a single, but Bigam stranded him there by striking out the side. Colton Brightwell tripled with two outs in the third inning, but was stranded. Anthony Dellapenna and Stewart had back-to-back singles to start the fourth inning, but Bigam struck out the next two batters and ended the threat with an infield pop fly.
Bigam allowed one earned run on seven hits in five innings with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
Kole Kuntz pitched the final two innings for the save. Kuntz walked two and struck out one.
Austin Bergman was stellar on the mound in the loss. He allowed just two hits, doubles to Burns and Prinkey, didn’t allow an earned run, walked three and struck out four.
Brightwell and Stewart both had two hits for WBAC.
Fayette American Legion
Belle Vernon 17, Colonial 3 5 – Belle Vernon rallied back into the lead with eight runs in the top of the second inning for a Fayette County American Legion Baseball League road victory.
The key hit in the inning was Jake Wessel’s two-run single.
Belle Vernon added two runs in the top of the third inning and put the game away with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Alex Nash drove in two runs with a double in the fourth inning. Mason Suss and Wessel both singled home a run. Kayden Faychak and Suss walked with the bases loaded, and Cole Matusik was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Faychak gave the visitors the early lead with a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning.
Colonial 3 responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning, two scoring on Ben Vojacek’s single.
JB Crovak won the game in relief of Carson Matusik. He didn’t allow a run or hit in 1.2 innings of work, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Wessel led Belle Vernon with three RBI and two hits. Colton Lee contributed a double and two singles. Faychak, Lee, Charlie Nigut and Austin Hoffman all finished with two hits.
Aiden Hardy took the loss. Trenton Wible and Tyler Monack had two singles each. Vojacek, Hunter Pelehac, Brock Alekson and Rylan Johnson drove in one run apiece.
