Lady Bearcats clinch playoff berth with 8-2 win

The Bentworth girls clinched their 14th playoff berth in the past 15 seasons Monday night with an 8-2 victory in a Section 1-A match against California.

Bella Moyer led the Bentworth attack with two goals. Brielle Dillon, Madelyn Johns, Brina Orsatti, Emme Orsatti, Megan Keturakis and Meredith Allender netted one goal apiece in the victory.

“I’m really happy with our performance. The quick start (a 3-0 lead) in the first 10 minutes was huge,” said Bentworth coach Tyler Hamstra. “Hats off to California. The Hartley sisters are two tough players.”

Laurel Highlands 6, Uniontown 1 – Adrianna Walker scored a hat trick to lead Laurel Highlands to a Section 3-AAA victory.

Ava Ruvalcaba, Taylor Irwin and Camryn McClean all scored one goal in the victory.

Disaya Craggette netted the Lady Raiders’ lone goal.

Belle Vernon 3, Ringgold 0 – Ava Scalise scored one goal in each half in the Lady Leopards’ Section 1-AA road victory.

Belle Vernon improves to 6-3 in the second and 7-7 overall.

Abby Russell assisted on Scalise’s goal in the first half and Payton Walsh set up Scalise for the first goal of the second half.

Kelsey Roskovich added an insurance goal from a Willa Zanchnak pass.

Skyler Salay and Aurora Bastedo made a combined 12 saves to preserve the shutout.

Waynesburg Central 3, Beth-Center 1 – Rylei Rastoka scored a goal and assisted on the other two in the Lady Raiders’ Section 1-A victory.

Waynesburg’s Jaden Tretinik and Emily Rafferty scored one goal apiece.

Chartiers-Houston 5, Brownsville 0 – The Lady Bucs shut out Brownsville for a Section 2-A victory.

Ali Wingard and Hailey Sierge both scored two goals for Charters-Houston (6-1, 8-2). The Lady Falcons slip to 0-6-1 in the section and 0-10-1 overall.

Mount Pleasant 4, Deer Lakes 0 – Rylin Bugosh netted two goals in the Lady Vikings’ Section 4-AA victory over Deer Lakes.

Maddie Barrick and Morgan Gesinski netted one goal each for Mount Pleasant (7-0, 11-1). Goalkeeper Laurel Rummel preserved the shutout.

Peters Twp. 11, Connellsville 0 – The Lady Falcons had a rough time with Peters Township for a Section 2-AAAA loss.

Taylor McCullough, Julia Spergel and Maddy Rost all scored two goals for Peters Township (6-0-1, 11-0-1). Connellsville slides to 0-7 in the section and 4-10 overall.

South Fayette 13, Albert Gallatin 0 – Mia Deramo and Katelyn Michel scored two goals apiece in the Lady Lions’ Section 3-AA victory.

South Fayette improves to 7-0 in the section and 10-3 overall, while the Lady Colonials slip to 1-5 in the section and 1-7 overall.

Southmoreland 10, Ligonier Valley 1 – Aubrey Seder scored a hat trick in the Lady Scotties’ Section 4-AA victory.

Megan Mehall scored twice and Caylin Raymond, Gia Vandyke, Mia Jordan, Bella Henderson and Abby Jordan netted one goal each for Southmoreland (5-2, 9-4).

Girls volleyball

Brownsville 3, Geibel Catholic 0 – The Lady Falcons swept to a non-section victory over the visiting Lady Gators.

Brownsville (5-7) won by the scores, 25-18, 25-7, 25-20.

The Lady Falcons’ Payton Evanchak had a solid all-around performance with seven kills, 15 assists, eight service points and five aces. Mia O’Hern had 19 service points. Skyler Gates finished with 12 kills and eigh service points. Ashley Evananchak had a strong defensive effort with 18 digs. Cyan Eilam had four kills.

Laurel Highlands 3, West Mifflin 0 – Laurel Highlands took a break from section play for a straight-sets victory over the Lady Titans.

Laurel Highlands won by the scores, 25-23, 25-19, 25-11.

Laurel Highlands stats leaders were Sara Reed (3 digs, 17 assists), Ayrianna Sumpter (5 kills, 2 aces), Alexandra Mattey (3 digs, 8 kills, 5 aces), Diondra Brown (4 kills, 3 aces), Lucy Baker (5 digs, 2 kills), Jayna Fabrey (6 digs), and Yelena Ford (4 digs, 2 assists).

Boys soccer

Belle Vernon 5, Yough 1 – Brandon Yeschenko netted a hat trick in the Leopards’ non-section win over Yough.

Chris Showman and Trevor Kovatch scored one goal each for Belle Vernon (5-5). The Cougars go to 3-5-2 overall.
