Trinity girls, Thomas Jefferson boys win Big South meet

The Thomas Jefferson boys finished with 37 points and the Trinity girls scored 31 points to win the team titles Wednesday afternoon in the annual Big South Meet at Mingo Creek Park.

Trinity’s Devin Junko won the boys title with a time of 16:48.81. McGuffey’s Elihu Dale was second in 17:37.13 and Ringgold’s Andrew Bruce placed third with a time of 17:42.42.

McGuffey’s Brady Hagerman (4, 17:45.33) and Moshe Dale (8, 18:12.83) and Thomas Jefferson’s Aidan Estermeyer (5, 17:52.16), Rylan Barr (6, 17:59.47), Michael Dorrian (8, 18:10.24), Dylan Schaffer (9, 18:15.32), and Tyler Lautner (10, 18:15.72) rounded out the top-10 finishers.

Thomas Jefferson’s Sylvia Kashak was the first female across the finish line in 20:16.36. Trinity’s Sam Ciampa finished second in 21:18.30 and Elizabeth Forward’s Lily Ash was third in 22:07.68.

Ringgold’s Emma Barkus (4, 22:27.18) and Willow Leach (9, 23:39.69), Trinity’s Olivia Angelo (5, 22:55.43), Morgan McCue (6, 23:01.98), Abby Bodart (8, 23:32.18), and Cicely Sunseri (10, 23:42.74), and McGuffey’s Madison Lucas (7, 23:23.64) filled out the top 10 places.

Girls soccer

Waynesburg Central 2, Chartiers-Houston 1, OT – Kolbi Rastoka scored both goals and Emily Rafferty assisted on the goals in the Lady Raiders’ Section 2-A overtime victory.

Waynesburg improves to 6-2 in the section and 10-2 overall. Chartiers-Houston goes to 6-2 in the section and 8-3 overall.

Mount Pleasant 11, East Allegheny 0 – Rylin Bugosh and Morgan Gesinski both scored hat tricks as the Lady Vikings rolled to a Section 4-AA victory.

Isabel Overly netted a pair of goals for Mount Pleasant (8-0, 12-1). Maddie Barrick, Emma Hatcher and Jaden Kantorik scored one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Laurel Rummel preserved the shutout.

Belle Vernon 1, McGuffey 0 – Ava Scalise scored an unassisted goal in the second half to lift the Lady Leopards to a Section 1-AA victory on Senior Night.

Skyler Salay and Aurora Bastedo combined to make six saves to preserve the shutout.

Belle Vernon improves to 7-3 in the section and 8-7 overall.

Bentworth 5, Brownsville 0 – Megan Keturakis and Emme Orsatti both scored two goals in the Lady Bearcats’ Section 2-A victory.

Brielle Dillon scored one goal for Bentworth (6-1, 11-1). Nita Anderson and Julia Brandau combined on the shutout.

Brownsville slips to 0-7-1 in the section and 0-11-1 overall.

California 1, Beth-Center 0 – Leah Hartley scored the Section 2-A match’s only goal to lead the Lady Trojans to victory.

California is 3-3-1 in the section and 4-5-1 overall. Beth-Center goes to 1-7 in the section and 2-8 overall.

Baldwin 2, Connellsville 0 – The Lady Falcons put up a tough battle, but Baldwin came away with the Section 2-AAAA victory.

Mary Vargo and Kelsey Meyer scored one goal each for Baldwin (3-5, 6-8). Connellsville slips to 0-8 in the section and 4-11 overall.

South Fayette 5, Laurel Highlands 0 – Gabby Beinecki scored a hat trick to lead South Fayette to victory.

Yough 2, Southmoreland 1 – Daisy Miller scored both goals for the Lady Cougars in a Section 4-AA victory.

Yough improves to 4-4 in the section and 10-5 overall. Southmoreland is 5-3 in the section and 9-5 overall.
