Falcons open PIHL season with 7-2 victory
Logan Hause scored a hat trick as Connellsville opened the PIHL D2 season Thursday night with a 7-2 victory over Trinity.
Hause spotted the Falcons the lead in the first period with goals at 5:11 and 7:14. He added his third goal in the second period.
Sam Denny, Braden Rodgerson, Ty Snyder and Matty Smith Jr. netted one goal each in the victory.
Connellsville goalie Nick Daniels-Nimmick stopped 28 shots.
Elizabeth Forward 5, Gateway 4, OT – Bobby Boord Jr. scored the game-winning goal 51 seconds into overtime to rally the Warriors to its first win of the season.
Boord scored the game-tying goal two minutes into the third period. He scored his third goal late in the first quarter.
Riley Wright and Cam Thompson scored one goal each for Elizabeth Forward (1-1-0). The Warriors’ Andrew Costello stopped 23 shots.
Boys soccer
Mount Pleasant 13, Greensburg Salem 0 – Lukas Showman finished with a hat trick in Mount Pleasant’s victory over visiting Greensburg Salem in a Section 4-AA victory.
Aydan Gross and Aidan Johnson both finished with two goals, while Tyke Snyder, Bryce Gamble, Bryson Bankosh, Carter Voke, Noah Lahm and Zach Livingston scored one goal each.
Tyler Kurtz made two saves to preserve the shutout.
Ringgold 8, McKeesport 0 – Zach Whaley and Joshua Molisee scored two goals each in the Rams’ Section 2-AAA home victory.
Izaiah Wilson, Jack Brodak, Nick Evans and Aidyn Whaley netted one goal for Ringgold (7-3-1, 8-5-1).
Bentworth 12, California 0 – The Bearcats scored nine goals in the first half to roll to a Section 2-A road win.
Bentworth improves to 7-0 in the section and 13-0 overall, and clinched the outright section title with the victory.
Ryan Moessner led the Bentworth offensive charge with four goals. Andrew Vipperman and Aiden McMurray both scored two goals. Austin Hollier, Caden Hackinson, DJ Hays and Cameron Rice all finished with one goal.
Waynesburg Central 2, Southmoreland 1 – The Raiders built a 2-0 lead in the second half and then held off the Scotties for a Section 4-AA road win.
Waynesburg’s Dylan Pester set up Eli Taylor for the only goal in the first half. Taylor’s pass led to a goal by Brendan Cole in the second half.
Liam Smith scored late in the second half for Southmoreland.
Beth-Center 4, Chartiers-Houston 0 – Nekoda Bundy netted a pair of goals in the Bulldogs’ Section 2-A win.
Parker Amos and Jordan Lowman scored one goal each for Beth-Center (4-2-0, 9-2-1).
Bethel Park 6, Albert Gallatin 0 – Bethel Park shut out the Colonials for a Section 2-AAA victory.
Albert Gallatin slides to 1-9 in the section and 1-10 overall.
Charleroi 7, Brownsville 1 – The Cougars remained undefeated with a Section 4-AA win over the Falcons.
Charleroi improves to 11-0 in the section and 12-0 overall. Brownsville goes to 2-8-1 in the section and 2-10-1 overall.
Dylan Klinger scored a hat trick for the Cougars. Landon Barcus netted a pair, and Ethan Hartley and Blake Pendo scored one each.
Peters Twp. 4, Connellsville 0 – The Falcons were shut out by Peters Twp. in a Section 2-AAA match.
Connellsville slips to 0-8 in the section and 2-12 overall.
Trinity 6, Laurel Highlands 1 – Andy Palm’s four goals led the Hillers to a Section 2-AAA win over the Mustangs.
Laurel Highlands goes to 3-8-0 in the section and 5-8-1 overall.
Girls soccer
Bentworth 4, South Side 0 – The Lady Bearcats scored two goals in each half for a non-section home win.
Brielle Dillon led Bentworth with two goals. Makayla Jackson and Abigail Brandau scored one goal apiece.
Nita Anderson and Julia Brandau preserved the win with the shutout.
Oakland Catholic 10, Albert Gallatin 0 – Oakland Catholic shut out the Lady Colonials for a Section 3-AAA win.
Alex Straub and Kaitlyn McIntyre both scored hat tricks for Oakland Catholic (4-4, 5-7). Albert Gallatin slips to 1-7 in the section and 1-9 overall.
West Mifflin 6, Uniontown 1 – Caroline Chelosky scored four goals in the Lady Titans’ non-section win over Uniontown.
Uniontown goes to 3-10 overall.
Girls volleyball
Ringgold 3, Albert Gallatin 0 – The Lady Rams swept to a Section 3-AAA victory over visiting Albert Gallatin.
Ringgold won by the scores, 25-16, 25-21, 25-17.
Albert Gallatin’s stats leaders were Mya Glisan (2 aces, 5 kills), Mary Myers (3 digs), Kymber Hlatky House (3 kills), Mia Myers *15 assists, 6 kills), Leah Myers (2 digs, 11 kills), Danica Sterbutzel (4 digs), Lily Mick (5 digs), Mikayla Shea (2 aces, 2 kills), and Mitchell Turner (3 kills).
Thomas Jefferson 3, Uniontown 0 – The Lady Jaguars were tough at home for a Section 3-AAA victory.
Thomas Jefferson swept to victory, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-15.
Lexi Humberston finished with 14 digs for the Lady Raiders. Maggie Campbell (5 digs, 5 assists, 6 kills), Ava Livingood (5 kills, 3 digs), Lyric McLee (3 digs), and Layla Fitzgerald (4 blocks) also had noteworthy performances.
Laurel Highlands 3, Belle Vernon 0 – Laurel Highlands swept past the visiting Lady Leopards for a Section 3-AAA win.
Laurel Highlands swept to victory by the scores, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20.
Sara Reed led Laurel Highlands with 24 assists. Jayna Fabrey had 15 digs and Lucy Baker finished with 10. Aryrianna Sumpter had a solid performance with four digs, six kills and six blocks.
Waynesburg Central 3, Bentworth 0 – The Lady Raiders remained undefeated with a Section 3-AA win at Bentworth.
Waynesburg (10-0, 12-0) won by the scores, 25-22, 25-14, 25-21.
Emily Rafferty (9 kills, 7 digs), Railey Bochna (6 kills, 6 digs), Ani Cree (10 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks), Bailey Rafferty (5 kills, 22 assists, 2 blocks), Leila McCollum (14 digs), and Gina Tedrow (8 assists) all contributed in Waynesburg’s win.
Bentworth’s Zoie McDonald had 16 assists. Sofia Gaussa finished with 11 digs. Chelsea Dindal had eight kills and two blocks. Nora Lindsay added seven kills.
Beth-Center 3, Mapletown 0 – The Lady Bulldogs returned home with a Section 3-A win.
Beth-Center swept victory by the scores, 25-10, 25-11, 25-21.
Miranda Fox finished with five kills, two blocks and six digs for Mapletown (1-5, 2-7). Treslee Weston had four kills, three aces and five digs. Marley Shiflett had a team-high 13 assists.
Men’s golf
Grove City Invitational – Albert Gallatin grad Matt Karpeal tied for sixth place in the field of 102 golfers in Waynesburg’s final match before the PAC Fall Championship.
Karpeal finished with a 4-over 76 with two birdies and 11 pars.
Jefferson-Morgan grad Brock Bayles and teammate tied for 29th place after shooting 79.
Fort Cherry graduate Alan Tarolli shot 81 to tie for 81st place. Waynesburg Central graduate Hudson Pincavitch shot 87 and Ringgold grad Gage Fuller finished with 92.
