Lady Commodores enter volleyball playoffs on winning note

Frazier will enter the WPIAL Class A volleyball playoffs on a winning note after defeating visiting Jefferson-Morgan, 3-0, Thursday in a non-section match.

The Lady Commodores (12-3) won by the scores, 25-18, 25-9, 25-14.

Frazier’s Maddie Salisbury, Grace Vaughn, Allie Monack and Addison Schultz all finished with nine kills. Gracen Hartman had a team-high 23 assists. Vaughn had 17 service points and Salisbury added 11.

Avella 3, Mapletown 2 – The Lady Eagles won the last two sets for a Section 3-A home victory.

Avella won the opening set, 25-17, but the Lady Maples (1-9, 2-12) pulled into the lead by winning the next two sets, 26-24 and 26-24. The Lady Eagles responded with set wins of 25-14 and 15-13.

Marley Shiflett (27 assists, 11 digs, 7 aces) and Miranda Fox (10 kills, 10 digs, five blocks) both had double-doubles for Mapletown. Marley Seward finished with 11 kills, eight aces and five digs. Treslee Weston added nine kills and eight digs, and Reagan Rankin finished with four aces.

Girls soccer

Waynesburg Central 4, Albert Gallatin 0 – The Lady Raiders prepped for the WPIAL playoffs with a non-section victory over the Lady Colonials.

Addie Cowell scored two goals in the victory. Abby Hartman and Emily Rafferty scored one goal apiece. Maddie Blair assisted on two goals and Rylei Rastoka had one assist.

Goalie Peyton Cowell preserved the shutout.

Boys soccer

Beth-Center 4, Carlynton 3, OT – Parker Amos scored in the first overtime period to lift the WPIAL playoff-bound Bulldogs to a non-section victory over the Cougars.

Amos led Beth-Center (11-3-1) with a pair of goals. Joseph Garrett and Reiner King both netted one goal.

Connellsville 11, Albert Gallain 0 – The Falcons ended the season on a positive note with a non-section win over the visiting Colonials.

Dylan Shallenberger scored a natural hat trick after netting first three goals of the match for Connellsville (3-14) and finished with four goals.

Tyler Burkus and William Gillott scored on goal each in the first half to give Connellsville a 5-0 halftime lead.

Robert Deason scored two goals and Derek Routzahn, Gillott, Shallenberger and Derek Soforic netted one apiece in the second half.

Jace Gratchic, Carson Colborn and Michael Roscart all had two assists.

Routzahn, Logan Mullins and Malachi Helms combined on the shutout.
