Moon eliminates Belle Vernon from boys soccer playoffs

Belle Vernon was shut out by Moon, 6-0, in the opening round of the Class AAA boys soccer playoffs on Saturday.

Evan Thomas scored two goals for top-seeded Moon (19-0).

The Leopards, who qualified for the postseason by tying for fourth place in Section 3, close their season with an 8-10-0 record.

Latrobe 2, Ringgold 0 — The fourth-seeded Wildcats (13-4-1) recorded their first playoff win in program history by blanking the visiting 13th-seeded Rams (10-9-1) in a Class AAA first-round game.

Warren Agostini scored on a header off a Stone Brunton corner kick in the first half and his brother Roman Agostini added a goal in the second half Latrobe.

Reece DiCasolo made four saves in recording the shutout for Latrobe.

Donovan Fortuna made five saves for Ringgold.
