Lady Commodores open playoffs with straight-sets win
Frazier opened the WPIAL Class A volleyball playoffs Tuesday night with a straight-sets victory over visiting Rochester.
The Lady Commodores (13-3) won by the scores, 25-14, 25-7, 25-5.
Grace Vaughn paced Frazier with 12 kills. Gracen Hartman finished with 24 assists. Addison Schultz contributed eight kills, 17 service points and four blocks. Addison Day finished with 15 service points and Addison Hiles had five digs.
Frazier plays Serra Catholic in Thursday’s quarterfinals. The Lady Eagles defeated Beth-Center, 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17).
California 3, Carmichaels 0 – The visiting Lady Trojans upended Carmichaels to advance to the Class A quarterfinals against fourth-seeded St. Joseph.
California swept to victory by the scores 25-19, 25-18 and 25-8.
Greensburg C.C. 3, West Greene 0 – The third-seeded Lady Centurions defeated visiting West Greene in straight sets.
Greensburg C.C. had set wins of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-8.
Girls soccer
Bentworth 2, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 1, OT – Bella Moyer scored the golden goal in overtime to lift the third-seeded Lady Bearcats to a first-round victory in the WPIAL Class A soccer playoffs.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart led 1-0 at halftime on Olivia Taylor’s goal, but Brielle Dillon’s goal tied the match with a goal in the second half. Dillon also assisted on Moyer’s game-winner.
“The goals were phenomenal tonight,” praised Bentworth coach Tyler Hamstra. “We had a little bit of a slow start with a little bit of nerves, but we grew into the game.
“We made adjustments at the half.”
Freeport 8, Belle Vernon 0 – Elena Jenkins netted a hat trick to lead Freeport to a first-round win in the WPIAL Class AA playoffs.
Freeport improves to 12-1-1, while the Lady Leopards end the season with an overall mark of 9-10-0.
North Catholic 3, Yough 0 – The Trojanettes had three different goal scorers for a WPIAL Class AA first-round victory.
North Catholic goes to 14-3-0. The Lady Cougars close with a 12-7-0 record.
Quaker Valley 4, Southmoreland 0 – The Lady Scots were shut out in a WPIAL Class AA first-round match at second-seeded Quaker Valley.
Ari Bosh scored twice for the Lady Quakers (14-2-2), who play Deer Lakes in Saturday’s quarterfinal round. Southmoreland ends the season with a 10-8-0 record.
Riverview 1, Waynesburg Central 0 – Hannah Hudack scored the match’s only goal in the second half to lift visiting Riverview to a WPIAL Class A first-round playoff match victory.
Riverview (11-3-0) advances to the quarterfinals against No. 2 seed Seton-La Salle. The Lady Raiders finished with a 14-3-0 record.
