Lady Colonials shut out Uniontown in section opener
The Albert Gallatin girls volleyball team didn’t drop a set on their way to a 3-0 victory Tuesday night in the Section 3-AAA opener against visiting Uniontown.
The Lady Colonials swept to victory by the scores, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17.
Leah Myers had a solid all-around performance for Albert Galaltin with seven kills, six aces and three digs. Mitchell Turner (4 kills), Mikayla Shea (5 kills), Mia Myers 15 assists, 6 aces, 4 kills), Kymber Hlatky-Houze (2 aces, 2 kills), and Mya Glisan (2 digs, 2 aces, 4 kills) also contributed to the win.
Uniontown’s Lexi Humberston had a strong defensive effort with 11 digs. Maggie Campbell (7 assists, 2 kills), Ava Livingood (3 kills), and Ryleigh Jose (3 aces, 4 digs, 2 kills) also had noteworthy performances.
Ringgold 3, Elizabeth Forward 0 – The Rams swept past Elizabeth Forward for a 3-AAA road victory.
Ringgold cruised to the win by the scores, 25-9, 25-11, 25-1).
Waynesburg Central 3, Charleroi 0 – The Lady Raiders didn’t drop a set for a Section 3-AA road victory.
Waynesburg secured the victory by the scores, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19.
The Lady Raiders’ Emily Rafferty (9 digs, 10 kills, 7 aces), Bailey Rafferty (9 digs, 16 assists, 2 aces), and Ani Cree (9 digs, 9 kills, 2 aces) all had all-around performances in the win. Railey Bochna (2 blocks), Harper Grimes (2 blocks), Leila McCollum (9 digs, 3 aces), and Chatham Knight (3 aces) also helped in the win.
Bentworth 3, Chartiers-Houston 0 – The Lady Bearcats didn’t drop a set for a Section 3-AA home victory.
Bentworth swept to victory with the scores, 25-20, 25-17, 25-15.
Chelse Dindal had a double-double with 15 kills and 16 digs. Zoie McDonald finished with 29 assists and nine aces.
McGuffey 3, Brownsville 1 – The Lady Falcons won the second set, 25-18, but visiting McGuffey took the last two for a Section 3-AA road victory.
McGuffey had set wins of 25-18, 25-10, and 25-16.
Payton Evanchak had 11 assists, 11 digs and four kills for Brownsville (0-1, 0-3). Skyler Gates finished with 11 kills, six blocks and eight digs. Ashley Evanchak had 15 digs.
Jefferson-Morgan 3, Geibel Catholic 0 – The Lady Rockets swept to a non-section victory over Geibel Catholic.
Emilee Bazzoli led Jefferson-Morgan (2-2) with 13 digs. Alisa Long also had a strong game with 10 digs and six kills. Alaina McCollum and Leighana Gooden both finished with nine assists.
Boys golf
Albert Gallatin 223, Ringgold 234 – Caeden Willliams fired a 39 in the Colonials’ Section 2-AAA road victory at Rolling Green Golf Course.
Trent Clemmer and Hayden Metts both shot 45 for Albert Gallatin (3-5, 4-5). Geno Valenti (48) and Tyler Felio (46) also counted in the final score. Colton Chipps’ 55 was not used.
Evan Callaway and Evan Anderson shared scoring honors for the Rams (0-8, 0-9) with 43. Trevor Benson (45), Brandon Nguyen (46), and Brice Kowall (48) rounded out the scoring.
Connellsville 217, Laurel Highlands 233 – Ethan Porreca shot an even-par 36 to lead the Falcons to a Section 2-AAA road victory at Uniontown Country Club.
Matt Firestone and Hunter Konieczny both carded 44 for Connellsville (7-1, 8-2). Derek Routzahn shot 45 and Eli Armstrong closed out the scoring with 48. Michael Roscart’s 50 did not count.
Tyler Cook was the low man for the Mustangs (3-4, 3-5) with 37. Kayden Smith shot 45. Jacob Kalich and Nico Harim both shot 49, and Ryan Revak closed the scoring with 53. Sevi Vecchiolla’s 59 did not count.
Belle Vernon 194, McKeesport 238 – Jordan Mocello posted a 2-under 34 in the Leopards’ Section 2-AAA road win at Butler’s Golf Course.
Seth Tomalski and Donny Croftcheck both finished with 37 for Belle Vernon. Jack Edwards shot 41. Wyatt Lukas and Lucas Judy both finished with 45.
Brock Stephenson was the low golfer for the Tigers with 45. Ayden Lipchey shot 46, and Mason Michaels, Gabe Shelly and Brody Bernard all finished with 49.
Mount Pleasant 195, Derry 256 – Ryan Karfelt was tough on his home course with a 3-under 33 in a Section 2-AA victory at Norvelt Golf Club.
Aydan Gross shot 39 for Mount Pleasant (5-2, 6-2). Tanner Frye (40), Nico Pisula (41), and Austyn Gross (42) rounded out the scoring. Antonio Fleck’s 50 did not count.
Chad Jones was the low man for the Trojans (3-5) with 42.
Carmichaels 224, Brownsville 294 – The Mikes picked up a Section 3-AA victory against the Falcons at Carmichaels Golf Club.
Eli Hastings led the way for Carmichaels (5-2, 5-3) with 4-over 41. Nathan Dursa (46), Connor Lapana (43), Zach Murphy (49), and Aydan Bate (45) also counted in the final score.
Benjamin Vojacek (51), Dominic Capan (56), Ava Rohland (54), Elizabeth McCune (66), and Tyler Glumac (67) had scoring rounds for Brownsville (0-7, 0-7).
McGuffey 216, Bentworth 264 – The Highlanders were tough at home at Lone Pine Country Club for a Section 3-AA victory.
Ross Skerbetz was the low man for the Bearcats (1-7, 1-10) with 7-over 43. Trent Wolpink (51), Wyatt Snyder (54), Craig McDonald (55), and Braidee Blackburn (61) rounded out the scoring.
Logan Crowe had medalist honors for McGuffey (8-1, 10-1) with an even-par 36.
Charleroi 210, Yough 272 – Charleroi kept rolling out in Section 8-AA action with a road victory at Madison Golf Club.
Levi Large had the medalist round for Charleroi (6-1, 7-2) with 3-over 39. Gage Patterson and Jake Corrin both shot 41. Kaden Woods finished with 44, and Ethan Hartly and Josh Chambers both shot 45.
Anthony Bonari had the low round for Yough (1-7, 1-8) with 47.
Girls tennis
Mount Pleasant 5, Greensburg Salem 0 – The Lady Vikings shut out visiting Greensburg Salem for a Section 1-AA victory.
Bella Fullman, Ryleigh Drzal and Kiersten O’Conner won singles matches. Danica Trainer and Autumn Jurkovic-Kuzma and Ella Alakson and Megan Bullock completed the sweep by winning their doubles matches.
Girls golf
Mount Pleasant 195, Southmoreland 198 – The Lady Vikings held off Southmoreland for a Section 1-AA road victory at Donegal Highlands Golf Course.
Brynlee Baluh secured medalist honors for Mount Pleasant (5-2, 5-2) with 41. Morgan Miller (45), Kaylie Korpiel (52), and Ally Christner (57) closed out the scoring rounds.
Kendall Campbell was the low golfer for the Lady Scots with 44. Claire Lehman (47), Rachel Ayres (55), and Zoey Provlic (52) also counted in the final score.
Girls soccer
Bentworth 2, Belle Vernon 0 – The Lady Bearcats scored both goals in the first half for a non-section win at Belle Vernon.
Makayla Jackson netted the first goal and Brielle Dillon scored the second. Bella Moyer assisted on both goals.
Greensburg Salem 3, Connellsville 1 – The Lady Lions scored three unanswered goals to rally past visiting Connellsville for a non-section win.
Rylee Leasher scored her 11th goal of the season to spot the Lady Falcons (4-2) the early lead at 37:45. Hayley Washington had the assist.
Sabrina Kasio tied the match 11 minutes later and Ella Hellman gave Greensburg Salem (2-2) the lead with her goal at 8:15.
Olivia Smith added an insurance goal with 22:05 left in the match.
Connellsville’s Sara Tinkey made three saves. Greensburg Salem’s Alice Wilkinson preserved the win with 14 saves.
Southmoreland 2, Keystone Oaks 0 – The Lady Scots’ Destiny Auer held Keystone Oaks scoreless for a non-section victory.
Aubrey Seder and Gia Van Dyke scored for Southmoreland (2-2).
Boys soccer
Bentworth 3, Elizabeth Forward 0 – Ryan Moessner scored two goals, one in each half, in the Bearcats’ non-section road victory.
Adam Moessner scored an insurance goal for Bentworth (4-0) late in the second half.
Beth-Center 3, Waynesburg Central 0 – Nekoda Bundy netted two goals to lead the Bulldogs’ to a non-section road victory.
Rylan Piper also scored for Beth-Center (2-0-1). Goalkeeper Luke Amon preserved the shutout.
Belle Vernon 2, Mount Pleasant 1 – The visiting Leopards rallied with two goals in the second half for a non-section road victory at Mount Pleasant.
Christ Showman set up Trevor Kovatch with the tying goal. Brandon Yeschenko scored the winning goal from a feed from Dominic Pireaux.
The Vikings’ Landon Stuart, with Bryson Bankosh assisting, scored the lone goal of the first half.
Belle Vernon improves to 3-0 overall.
Charleroi 6, McGuffey 4 – Blake Pendo and Dylan Klinger both scored two goals in the Cougars’ non-section win over the Highlanders.
Ethan Hartley and Otis McIntyre both netted one goal each for Charleroi (2-0).
