Belle Vernon junior Jack Edwards has been playing pretty good of late, and that improved play resulted with the FCCA Golf Invitational title Friday at Duck Hollow Golf Club.

Edwards fired a 1-under 70, going out in even-par 35 and playing the back in 1-under 34.

“I was very proud of myself. Everything kind of came together,” said Edwards, adding, “Golf is a lot easier when you can hit your driver straight.”

Edwards had two birdies on the front and two on the back to go with three bogeys.

“All my birdie putts were good strokes on the ball. I was very confident with my putter today,” said Edwards.

Edwards said the county title is a culmination of his play for the week.

“I’ve been playing some good golf lately. I had confidence coming into this week,” said Edwards.

Geibel CatholicĢƵ Mike Miller and FrazierĢƵ Dylan Keilbach shared second place at even-par 70.

Keilbach said he played a pressure-free round of golf.

“I’m feeling free. I was playing aggressive. I had nothing to lose here,” said Keilbach, who finished second last year. “Everything was working. I was able to get up and down when I needed to.”

Keilbach noted what was working.

“Anything with an iron. I put anything where I wanted to with my irons,” said Keilbach. “I hit a lot of good drives.

“Today was a good snowball. I started feeling it after the third hole. I started hitting everything with confidence.”

Miller was able to use the dry, hard conditions to his advantage.

“I drove seven or eight greens. That made the short game easier,” explained Miller. “My putting was phenomenal. I felt every putt had a chance to go in.”

Miller added, “I had three birdies on the back nine and had no double bogeys.”

Miller far exceeded his expectations.

“When I came in, I thought I’d shoot in the low 80s. I was just going in and not thinking about it,” said Miller. “I just took it one hole at a time, one shot at a time. I didn’t freak out.”

UniontownĢƵ Brody Schiffbauer (72), BrownsvilleĢƵ Ben Vojacek (72), Laurel Highlands’ Tyler Cook (73), ConnellsvilleĢƵ Ethan Porreca (74) and Derek Routzahn (75), GeibelĢƵ Seth Dolan (75), and Belle VernonĢƵ Seth Tomalski (75) also earned all-county honors.
