Lady Commodores finish strong for home win over GCC
Frazier dropped the second set, 25-17, but responded by winning the next two sets for a 3-1 victory Thursday night in Section 4-A action against visiting Greensburg Central Catholic.
The Lady Commodores (5-0, 6-3) won the first set, 25-21. They regained the lead with a 25-14 win in the third set, and closed out the section victory by taking the third set, 25-11.
Gracen Hartman led the way with 54 assists. Addison Hiles had a double-double with 29 digs and 14 service points. Addison Schultz finished with 17 kills and nine blocks. Allie Manack (13 kills), Grace Polkabla (13 digs), and Grace Vaughn (4 blocks) also contributed to the win.
Latrobe 3, Laurel Highlands 2 – The Lady Wildcats won the last two sets to rally for a Section 3-AAA home win.
Laurel Highlands dropped the first set, 25-23, but came back to win the next two, 25-13 and 25-23. Latrobe tied the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set, and secured the win with a 15-12 victory in the final set.
Laurel Highlands stats leaders were Sara Reed (9 digs, 30 assist, 2 aces), Ayrianna Sumpter (4 digs, 5 kills, 6 blocks), Alexandra Mattey (17 digs, 13 kills, 2 blocks), Diondra Brown (5 kills, 3 blocks), Callie Friend (2 digs, 2 kills, 9 blocks), Lucy Baker (11 digs, 4 kills, 4 aces), Jayna Fabrey (18 digs, 2 aces), and Harlie Didra (2 digs).
Albert Gallatin 3, Uniontown 0 – The Lady Colonials swept to a Section 3-AAA road victory at Uniontown.
Albert Gallatin won by the scores, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14.
Albert Gallatin stats leaders were Mitchell Turner (4 blocks), Gabby Delorenzo (3 digs), Mikayla Shea (3 aces, 3 kills), Leah Myers (5 digs, 16 kills), Mia Myers (26 assists, 4 aces, 6 kills), Kymber Hlatki Houze (3 digs, 4 kills), and Mya Glisan (3 aces, 8 kills).
Uniontown’s Lyric McLee finished with six kills and eight digs. Maggie Campbell had eight assists, four aces and three digs. Ava Livingood contributed two kills, six digs and five aces. Lexi Humbertson had four digs.
Ringgold 3, Elizabeth Forward 1 – The Lady Warriors won the third set, 25-23, to keep the Section 3-AAA match alive, but the home team closed out the match by winning the fourth set, 25-19.
Ringgold won the first two sets, 25-12, 25-18.
McGuffey 3 Brownsville 0 – McGuffey was tough at home for a Section 3-AA victory.over the Lady Falcons.
McGuffey swept to victory by the scores, 25-14, 25-15. 25-15. Brownsville goes to 3-5 in the section and 4-7 overall.
Waynesburg Central 3, Charleroi 0 – The Lady Raiders remained undefeated with a Section 3-AA home victory.
Waynesburg (8-0, 10-0) won in straight sets, 25-14, 25-22 and 25-15.
Ani Cree had 10 kills for the Lady Raiders. Railey Bochna finished with eight kills and three aces. Bailey Rafferty had a team-high 21 kills to go with seven kills. Emily Rafferty (7 aces), Gina Tedrow (2 aces, 9 assists), and Leila McCollum (5 digs) also contributed to the win.
Chartiers-Houston 3, Bentworth 0 – The Lady Bucs won a Section 3-AA match at home against visiting Bentworth.
Chartiers-Houston won by the scores, 25-21, 25-16, 25-19.
Bentworth was led by Chelsea Dindal (5 kills), Nora Lindley (3 aces), Olivia Telegraphis (21 digs), and Zoie McDonald (11 assists).
Yough 3, Geibel Catholic 0 – The Lady Cougars returned home with a non-section victory in straight sets.
Yough swept to victory by the scores, 25-6, 25-20, 25-9.
Girls tennis
Section doubles tournaments – Mount Pleasant’s Ryleigh Drzal and Danica Trainer advanced to the Section 1-AA doubles final against Greensburg C.C.’s Sasha Hoffman and Emilia Longhi.
The pair opened the tournament with a 10-1 win over Jeannette’s Lindsay Jordan and Peyton Pitzer. Drzal and Trainer defeated Burrell’s Abby Ruffini and Sara Waldsmith in the quarterfinals, 10-0.
They defeated Valley’s Alexandra Thomey and Karrigan Thomey in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-2.
Southmoreland’s Mackenzie Gower and Cloie Causer and Alexis Levendosky and Mckenzie Thompson lost in the first round.
Connellsville’s Josie Knopsnider and Allison Painter and Maggie Orndorff and Kenzie Schroyer lost in the first round of the Section 1-AAA tournament.
Boys soccer
Ringgold 2, Laurel Highlands 0 – The Rams scored one goal in each half for a Section 2-AAA road victory.
Aidan Whaley scored in the first half and Cody Scheponik added an insurance goal in the second half.
Ringgold improves to 6-2-1 in the section and 7-4-1 overall. Laurel Highlands goes to 3-6-0 in the section and 4-6-1 overall.
Bentworth 7, Greensburg C.C. 1 – The Bearcats scored seven unanswered goals for a Section 2-A victory.
Ryan Moessner led the charge for Bentworth (5-0, 11-0) with a hat trick. Adam Moessner netted two goals, and Andrew Vipperman and Austin Hollier scored one goal apiece.
DJ Hays, Ryan Moessner, Adam Moessner, Dillan Colbert, Vipperman and Gage Davenport all had one assist.
Latrobe 12, Uniontown 1 – Roman and Warren Agostoni both scored five goals to lead the Wildcats to a Section 3-AAA victory.
The Red Raiders slip to 0-8 in the section and 2-8 overall.
Southmoreland 3, Greensburg Salem 0 – Jack Smith scored two goals in the Scotties’ Section 4-AA victory over the Golden Lions.
Hunter Ryan also scored a goal for Southmoreland (6-2, 8-4).
Upper St. Clair 8, Connellsville 0 – The Panthers shut out the Falcons for a Section 2-AAAA victory.
Connellsville slides to 0-6 in the section and 2-10 overall.
Girls soccer
Southmoreland 8, Uniontown 3 – Addy Jordan finished with a hat trick in the Lady Scots’ non-section victory over the Lady Raiders.
Megan Mehall scored two goals and Mylee Street, Aubrey Seder and Gia Vandyke netted one each for Southmoreland (8-4).
Allison Novak scored twice for Uniontown (3-7).
Yough 3, Hempfield 1 – Gionna Pionka scored two goals in the Lady Cougars’ non-section win.
Yough improves to 8-5 overall.
