Local roundup: LH girls go 2-0 in triangular meet

Laurel Highlands earned a pair of victories in a Section 2-3A girls track and field meet Thursday.

The Fillies defeated Ringgold, 94-54, and Elizabeth Forward, 108-38. The Lady Rams beat EF, 96.5-48.5.

Taylor Schwertfeger and Diondra Brown were both double winners for Laurel Highlands. Schwertfeger was first in the 400 (1:02.98) and 800 (2:37.89). Brown was victorious in the 100 (12.82) and 200 (26.76).

Other individual winners for the Fillies were Isabella Baker in the 1,600 (5:30.18), Maura Nagle in the 3,200 (14:51.18), Shayla Dues in the 100 high hurdles (16.26), Kate John in the pole vault (6-0) and Righteous Richardson in the long jump (14-11.5).

Laurel Highlands also won the 1,600 relay (4:27.48) and the 3,200 relay (11:04.90).

Abigael Nicolas took first in the high jump (5-2) and triple jump (32-3) for Ringgold.

The Lady Rams’ Isabel Shvarts won the 300 hurdles (48.78) and Ringgold triumphed in the 400 relay (53.15).

Individual winners for the Lady Warriors were McKenna Bittner in the shot put (29-0.5), Meadow Whatton in the discus (76-6) and Kaelynn Settles in the javelin (92-1).

Boys track and field

Ringgold 88.5, Laurel Highlands 61.5; Laurel Highlands 97, Elizabeth Forward 52; Ringgold 95, Elizabeth Forward 53 – The Rams topped the Mustangs and the Warriors in a Section 2-3A meet.

Laurel Highlands defeated EF to go 1-1 on the day.

Matt Schwertfeger took home three first-place finishes for the Mustangs in the distance races, winning the 800 (2:09.53), 1,600 (4:52.66) and 3,200 (10:54.18).

Other individual winners for LH were Malakai Tabuvuya in the 110 high hurdles (19.04), Grant Brambley in the javelin (143-4), Josh Reed in the pole vault (11-1) and Alifia Calloway in the triple jump (40-3.5).

Elizabeth Forward had a pair of double winners. Connor Stokes was first in the 100 (10.83) and the 400 (50.77) and Chris Climes was victorious in the shot put (49-1.5) and discus (107-5).

The Warriors’ Jakub McKelvey won the long jump (18-9).

Individual winners for Ringgold were Szyair Dungee in the 200 (23.96), Clever Adom in the 300 hurdles (44.98) and Dennis Hawkins III in the high jump (5-10).

The Rams swept the relays, winning the 400 in 44.31, the 1,600 in 3:39.05 and the 3,200 in 9:02.16.
