Local roundup: Colonials edge Mustangs in 8 innings, 4-3.

Geno Valenti hit a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the eighth inning and earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief as Albert Gallatin edged host Laurel Highlands, 4-3, in a Section 2-4A baseball battle Monday.

The score was tied 3-3 in the top of the eighth when the Colonials’ Michael Dunham hit a lead-off double, advanced to third on Clay Smith’s sacrifice bunt and came home on Valenti’s fly out to left field.

Valenti, who allowed just one hit and no walks with two strikeouts, closed out the game with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

Kanyon Sutton doubled and singled and Ben Lilley also had two hits for AG (3-4, 3-5) which also got two RBIs from Matt Malinsky and a run-scoring single from Jason Myers.

Malinsky started on the mound for Albert Gallatin and surrendered three runs on five hits with six walks and two strikeouts in five innings.

The Colonials took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third but the Mustangs (0-5, 1-6) tied it with two runs in the bottom of the frame on Noah Lion’s sacrifice fly and Braylon Schoch’s RBI grounder.

Albert Gallatin went up 3-2 in the fourth but LH tied it with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Aiden Milsom had a double, single and RBI and Schoch also doubled for Laurel Highlands. Losing pitcher Jack Johns allowed one run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings of relief. Starting pitcher Noah Fleszar gave up one earned run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in four innings.

Elizabeth Forward 7, Belle Vernon 0 – Cy Herchelroath tossed a three-hit shutout with one walk and eight strikeouts at the Warriors handed the visiting Leopards their first loss of the season in a Section 2-4A game.

Joseph Crovak doubled, singled and had two RBIs for EF (4-1, 7-2) which also got doubles from Charlie Nigut and Jacob Peterson.

Alonzo Wade singled twice for Belle Vernon (6-1, 7-1). Losing pitcher Parker Lind gave up three earned runs on three hits with six walks and five strikeouts.

Fort Cherry 9, Frazier 2; Chartiers-Houston 4, Frazier 1 – The Commodores suffered losses to Fort Cherry in a completion of a suspended game from April 9 and to Chartiers-Houston in a pair of Section 1-2A games.

Matt Sieg was 3 for 3 with an RBI and Nate Wolfe had a double and two RBIs for the Rangers (6-1, 6-4). Winning pitcher Ryan Huey allowed one hit and no walks in four scoreless innings. Losing pitcher Brant Alekson, Logan Solomon and Dailan McManus each had a single for Frazier against Fort Cherry.

Jake Perchinsky was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Aaron Walsh also had two hits for the Bucs (3-3, 5-3). Winning pitcher Brady Gotfredson gave up one unearned run on three hits in 6 â…“ innings.

Chase Fulmer had two of the Commodores’ three hits against C-H. Losing pitcher Aidan Hardy allowed seven hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in going the distance.

Greensburg Central Catholic 6, Carmichaels 5 – Anthony Grippo doubled and scored on an error to give the host Centurions a walk-off Section 1-A win over the Mikes.

Tyler Samide hit a three-run homer and Bobby Smithnosky doubled and singled for GCC (4-0, 6-1) which also got two hits apiece from Grippo, Brody Bothell and Stephen Kochis. Alec Martin pitched one scoreless inning to earn the win.

Jordan Davis doubled, singled and knocked in four runs for Carmichaels (4-2, 5-3) which also got two hits and an RBI from Robbie Wilson-Jones who took the loss in relief.

Jefferson-Morgan 12, West Greene 2 – Drew Adams doubled, singled and threw a three-hitter as the Rockets knocked off the visiting Pioneers in a five-inning Section 1-A game.

Adams gave up two unearned runs with two walks and four strikeouts.

Brayden Ellsworth had three hits, Evan Kniha had two hits and three RBIs and Joe Bair contributed a double, single and two RBIs for J-M (3-3, 4-3) which also got two hits and two RBIs apiece from John Woodward and Brenton Barnhart and two singles from Jaymison Robinson.

Lane Allison was 3 for 3 and knocked in the only two runs for West Greene (2-3, 3-7). Darren Knight took the loss.

Connellsville 11, McKeesport 0 – Grayden Gillott doubled and drove in three runs in the Falcons’ Section 4-5A win over the Tigers (0-5, 0-10).

Jayden Mickens doubled, singled and knocked in two runs for the Falcons (3-1, 7-2) who also got three RBIs from Gradin Hodge. Easton Bryner was the winning pitcher.

California 7, Bentworth 2 – Ricky Lawson doubled twice and knocked in two runs in the Trojans’ Section 1-2A victory over the Bearcats (2-5, 2-6).

Logan Hartley had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for California (4-0, 4-4-1).

Lucas Burt singled twice for Bentworth.

Waynesburg Central 10, Seton LaSalle 2 – Alex VanSickle drove in two runs with a home run and a double as the Raiders triumphed over the Rebels (4-2, 5-4) to remain unbeaten.

Austin Surber doubled and tripled and Jake Stephenson had triple, single and two RBIs for Waynesburg (5-0, 9-0) which also got two hits from CJ Corwin and Ethan Kiger and two RBIs from Kory Taylor.

Winning pitcher Tyler Groves came within one out of a complete game. He allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in 6 â…” innings.

Mount Pleasant 12, Yough 2 – Dane Firmstone had two doubles and three RBIs in the Vikings’ Section 3-3A victory over the Cougars.

Cole Chatfield, Jordan Grieff and Levi Hixson had two RBIs apiece for Mount Pleasant (4-2, 6-2). Jacob Kitz was the winning pitcher.

Raidon Kuroda had a double and two RBIs for Yough (2-3, 2-5).

Burgettstown 11, Beth-Center 1 – Matt Bredel had a triple, double, two RBIs and was the winning pitcher in the Blue Devils’ Section 1-2A win over the Bulldogs (1-5, 2-5).

Jayden Roach homered for Burgettstown (3-1, 4-1).

McGuffey 5, Brownsville 1 – Reno Preso knocked in a run and was the winning pitcher as the Highlanders (4-1, 7-3) earned a Section 4-3A win over the Falcons.

Jeremiah McDonald had a double and knocked in the only run for Brownsville (2-5, 2-5).

Softball

Waynesburg Central 5, Frazier 4 – Gina Tedrow pitched a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts while surviving nine walks to earn the win in the Lady Raiders’ Section 4-2AA game at Frazier.

Avery Davis and Kolbi Rastoka each had a single and an RBI for Waynesburg (2-0, 5-3).

The only hits for the Lady Commodores (2-1, 5-2) were a two-run double by Grace Vaughn and an RBI triple by Emme Travalena. Losing pitcher Addison Hiles gave up just one earned run on five hits and no walks with eight strikeouts.

Carmichaels 15, Beth-Center 0 – Bailey Barnyak was 3 for 4 and threw a four-inning one-hitter as the Lady Mikes blanked the visiting Lady Bulldogs in a Section 2-A game.

Ali Jacobs hit a solo home run, Avery Voithofer also had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs and Carys McConnell doubled, singled and knocked in two runs for Carmichaels (3-0, 7-0) which also got two hits and three RBIs from Kaitlyn Waggett.

Barnyak walked one and struck out eight.

Jenna Pohill had the lone hit for B-C (1-2, 1-6).

Mount Pleasant 5, Yough 3 – Danica Trainer was 3 for 3 with a home run, double and an RBI and was the winning pitcher as the host Lady Vikings beat the Lady Cougars in a Section 1-3A game.

Trainer gave up seven hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts.

Kendall Waters also had three hits for Mount Pleasant (4-0, 6-3) which also got two hits apiece from Gigi Stanek and Ella Alakson and two RBIs from Kendra Brunson.

Anna Lindner had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Yough (0-3, 2-5) which also got a pair of singles from Kylee Odelli.

West Greene 9, Jefferson-Morgan 0 – Kendra Tharp hit a three-run homer in an eight-run seventh inning as the Lady Pioneers used the late explosion to fight off the host Lady Rockets in a Section 2-A game.

Tharp had two hits as did Marissa Tharp, who scored the first run of the game on Madelyn Robert’s RBI in the sixth inning.

Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert allowed just two hits and three walks with three strikeouts for West Greene (3-1, 8-1).

Addie Larkin’s double and a single by losing pitcher Emmalee Bazzoli were the only hits for J-M (2-1, 5-2).

Connellsville 15, Peters Township 5 – Kalyn Cole and Cali Leichliter and Kalyn Cole each smacked a home run as the Lady Falcons rolled to a Section 4-5A win over the Lady Indians (0-6, 2-8).

Molly Greenawalt added a double for Connellsville (1-1, 5-1). Mackenzie Victor was the winning pitcher.

Mapletown 9, Avella 3 – Makenna Lotspeich homered and doubled in the Lady Maples’ Section 2-A victory over the Lady Eagles.

Cora Roberts also hit a home run for Mapletown (1-3, 3-6).

Avella (0-3, 1-7) got doubles from Haleigh Rush and Emily Buel.

Southmoreland 17, Burrell 11 – Makayla Etling, Zoey Murphy and Makayla Brown each homered and doubled as the Lady Scotties (2-1, 4-3) out-slugged the Lady Bucs (0-4, 4-7) in a Section 1-3A game.
