Uniontown Legion finishes 3-0 over weekend
Uniontown won three non-league games on Friday and Saturday in American Legion play.
Uniontown opened its three-game home set with a 7-2 victory Friday morning over Potomac Valley before edging Moundsville, 6-5, later in the afternoon. The hosts squeaked by US Elite, 4-3, on Saturday to improve their season record to 6-0.
Noah Lion’s sacrifice flyout to left field scored Sevi Vecchiolla to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning against US Elite.
Brayden Hinzy earned the pitching victory after throwing two scoreless innings in relief. He allowed one hit with a strikeout and didn’t walk a batter.
Barrett Shuba had two hits to pace Uniontown.
The home team had a 1-0 lead after the first inning before US Elite scored two in the third and one in the fourth for a 3-1 advantage. Uniontown scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.
Hinzy earned the save against Moundsville after throwing two scoreless innings. He yielded one hit, struck out one and walked two.
Eahn Stevenson was the winning pitcher against Moundsville after allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits over five innings. He struck out and walked two. Stevenson helped his own cause with an RBI triple in Uniontown’s three-run first inning.
Teammate Shane Kelly had an RBI triple, and Connor D’Amico doubled for the home team. D’Amico singled for a two-hit night.
Tate Musko was 4 for 4 with a double for Uniontown against Potomac Valley. Musko scored three runs and knocked in a run.
Nick Fleszar was victorious on the mound in allowing two earned runs on two hits over four innings. He had six strikeouts and walked two. Nick Crouch pitched three scoreless innings of one-hit ball to earn the save. Crouch struck out one and didn’t issue a walk.
Fleszar knocked in two runs.
Uniontown plays Colonial 3 tonight in Rowes Run at 6 p.m. in Fayette American Legion league play.
