Local roundup: Smithfield-Fairchance blanks Colonial, 5-0

Geno Valenti pitched 6 â…“ scoreless innings and Michael Dunham had two hits and three RBIs as Smithfield-Fairchance shut out visiting Colonial, 5-0, in a Fayette American Legion baseball action Wednesday.

Valenti gave up four hits and three walks with nine strikeouts before hitting the pitch-limit. Reliever Colin Andrews got the final two outs to finish the combined shutout.

Dunham hit a RBI single in a two-run second and delivered a two-run single in a three-run third for Smithfield-Fairchance (2-3).

Alex Dolobach was 2 for 2 with an RBI for S-F.

Dalian McManus hit a double for Colonial. Nash Petroff took the loss.

Belle Vernon 11, Charleroi 8 – Belle Vernon scored five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and held on from there to defeat host Charleroi.

JB Crovak and Landon Jackson both had a double, single and three RBIs for Belle Vernon (3-1).

Jackson hit a two-run double, Austin Hoffman stroked a two-run single and Cole Matusik had an RBI single in Belle Vernon’s big sixth for a 10-6 advantage. Charleroi had taken a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth on Kaden Woods’ run-scoring single.

Run-scoring singles by Brock Henderson and Jim Lanzi keyed a five-run first inning to give Charleroi a 5-1 lead. Jackson and Crovak each had an RBI single in a two-run third to get the visitors within one. Andrew Sprinkle’s run-scoring single and Crovak’s sacrifice fly tied it at 5-5 in the fourth.

Jaxson Bozek was credited with the win although he allowed two runs in â…” inning. Crovak tossed two scoreless innings for the save, striking out the side in the seventh.

Jake Gelder was the losing pitcher.

Sprinkle, Matusik and Hoffman each had two hits and Ian Porter doubled for Belle Vernon.

Jace Pager had three hits, including a double, and an RBI for Charleroi (2-6) which also got two hits from Lanzi.

Carmichaels 6, Mill Run 5 – The Copperheads built a 6-0 then fended off a late Mill Run rally to hold on for a home victory in improving to 5-0 in a Fayette County Baseball League battle.

Andino Vecchiolla blasted a three-run homer in the first inning and Santino Marra smacked a solo shot in the third to put Carmicahels ahead 4-0.

The Copperheads got an RBI single from Hunter Mamie and Marra was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth to make it 6-0.

The Millers (0-4) got an unearned in the sixth then pushed across four runs in the seventh. Marc Prinkey had a two-run single, Logan Kemp had a RBI hit and Grayden Gillott also had an RBI in the frame.

Drake Long came on in relief for Carmichaels and got the final three outs to earn the save.

Winning pitcher Matt Bramford allowed one unearned run on two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in 5 â…” innings.

Matthew Miller took the loss.

Vecchiolla had two of the Copperheads’ five hits.

Luke Warrick was 2 for 2 for Mill Run.

Charleroi 9, Brownsville 4 – Chad Behrendt had three hits, two runs and an RBI as the Magicians triumphed over visiting Brownsville on Thursday.

Lorenzo Glasser contributed two hits and an RBI and Remington Lessman added a single and two RBIs for Charleroi (4-1).

Winning pitcher Ashton Ray gave up three earned runs on three hits with six walks and four strikeouts in five innings. Brad Banaszak finished up from there with two scoreless frames.

Colton Brightwell had a double, two runs and an RBI for the Magicians who also got a single, two runs and an RBI from Tyler Sankovich.

Wyatt Nehls singled and drove in two runs for the Cougars (0-6) who also got a single, two runs and three stolen bases from Willie Palmer, who took the loss. Jonathan Vasbinder and Donovan Von Frandenburg had one RBI apiece.
