Local roundup: Frazier thumps Mapletown, improves to 3-0
Dailan McManus was 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs as Frazier thumped visiting Mapletown, 14-4, in a five-inning, non-section baseball game Friday.
Chase Fulmer doubled, singled and knocked in three runs for the Commodores (3-0).
Winning pitcher Dylan Kielbauch pitched all five innings, allowing four unearned runs with one walk and seven strikeouts, and also had a double and an RBI.
Spencer Yeager went 3 for 3 with an RBI and Ashtin Nellelroad doubled and singled for the Maples (1-2) who also got two hits from Ashton Walker and a double and two RBIs from Coltin Halbert.
Carson Vanata took the loss.
Connellsville 18, Albert Gallatin 3 – Grayden Gillott doubled, tripled and had three RBIs as the Falcons exploded for 13 runs in the opening frame in a four-inning, non-section victory over the visiting Colonials.
Chase Sankovich and Easton Bryner both were 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Matt Firestone had two hits and three RBIs for Connellsville (2-1), which also got a triple, single and two RBIs from Linkon Keller. Gradin Hodge added a double and an RBI for the Falcons.
Winning pitcher Tyler McDowell allowed two earned runs with one walk and six strikeouts in three innings.
Geno Valenti doubled and singled and Luke Wilson also doubled and drove in two runs for Albert Gallatin (0-1) which also got a triple and an RBI from Matt Malinsky and two hits from Ben Lilley.
Clay Smith was the losing pitcher.
Waynesburg Central 7, Fort LeBoeuf 5 – Alex VanSickle had three hits and two RBIs in the Raiders’ non-section win over Fort LeBoeuf.
Tyler Groves delivered a double, single and two RBIs and earned the win in relief for Waynesburg (3-0) which also got a single and an RBI from Jake Stephenson.
Ethan Bliley had a double and two RBIs for the Bison (0-2).
Beth-Center 10, Clairton 0 – Luke Amon knocked in three runs with a double and two singles as the visiting Bulldogs blanked the Bears in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Eli Wright pitched four scoreless innings with no walks and four strikeouts and helped his own cause with a double, single and RBI for Beth-Center (1-0) with also got a single and an RBI from both Santino Revi and Xander Day.
Losing pitcher Adonte Wiggins had the lone hit for Clairton (0-3).
Cameron (W.Va.) 9, West Greene 3 – Kason Angel homered, drove in two runs and was the winning pitcher in Cameron’s non-section win over the Pioneers.
Soier Reed had a triple and three RBIs for Cameron. Angel struck out 15 in tossing a two-hitter.
Wyatt Mooney singled and drove in a run for West Greene.
Softball
Belle Vernon 9, Albert Gallatin 5 – Mia Zubovic homered and freshman Mailey Hayes had four RBIs in the Lady Leopards’ non-section victory over the Lady Colonials.
Mikayla Shea had three RBIs for Albert Gallatin (0-1).
Patrick Henry (Ohio) 5, Laurel Highlands 2; Burgettstown 18, Laurel Highlands 5 – The Fillies lost to Patrick Henry of Ohio on Saturday and Burgettstown on Friday in non-section games in Tennessee.
Emme Cavalier had two hits for Laurel Highlands (1-3) in Saturday’s game. Charity Babbitt smacked a pair of doubles and Payton Rambo had two RBIs in Friday’s game for LH.
Charleroi 12, Mapletown 2 – Lyla Brunner had three RBIs as the Lady Cougars (1-1) triumphed over the Lady Maples in a non-section game.
Makenna Lotspeich and Treslee Weston each doubled for Mapletown (2-2).
Mount Pleasant 9, Ringgold 4 – Gracie Etling went 4 for 4 with a double, triple and RBI in the Lady Vikings’ non-section victory at Ringgold (0-4).
Winning pitcher Gigi Stanek allowed three earned runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts and also doubled, singled and knocked in two runs for Mount Pleasant (2-0).
Kendra Brunson had two hits and three RBIs and Carly Suma and Danica Trainer each added a double and an RBI for Mount Pleasant (2-0) which also got two hits from Autumn Jurkovic Kuzma.
