Local roundup: Keller helps propel Falcons past LH
Linkon Keller was 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs as Connellsville defeated visiting Laurel Highlands, 9-5, in non-section baseball action Tuesday.
The Falcons broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the bottom of the third then tacked on a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth in building a 9-4 lead.
Jonathan Kelly, Grayden Gillott and Matthew Firestone chipped in with two hits apiece for Connellsville (3-1).
Winning pitcher Ethan Porreca allowed three earned runs on two hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in four innings. Mason Miller allowed one unearned run in three innings to earn the save.
Sevi Vecchiolla hit a home run and drove in two for the Mustangs (1-1) who also got an RBI each from Connor Damico and Nick Crouch. Noah Lion took the loss.
Belle Vernon 11, Uniontown 2 – Kole Doppelheuer had three hits and Lucas Judy drove in three runs with a double and a single in the Leopards’ Section 2-4A win over the visiting Red Raiders.
Cole Matusik also had two hits and Jaden Johnson added a double for Belle Vernon (1-0, 3-0). Winning pitcher Parker Lind allowed two unearned runs on two hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts in five innings.
Gary Smitley had a single and an RBI for Uniontown (0-1, 1-2). Brayden Hinzy took the loss.
Waynesburg Central 13, Brownsville 7 – Alex VanSickle had three hits, including a two-run homer, and three RBIs as the Raiders remained unbeaten with a Section 4-3A win at Brownsville.
Tyler Groves had two hits, including a triple and two RBIs and winning pitcher Austin Surber doubled for Waynesburg (1-0, 4-0) which also got a double from Ethan Kiger and two hits apiece from Grant Pack and Derek Turcheck.
Noah Petroff had a double and an RBI for the Falcons (0-1, 0-1) who also got a pair of RBIs from Jeremiah McDonald.
Carmichaels 15, Mapletown 0 – Dayton Reynolds had two hits and three RBIs and Ryder Krieg contributed three hits and two RBIs in the host Mikes’ three-inning Section 1-A win over the Maples.
Robbie Wilson-Jones added a double, single and two RBIs for Carmichaels (1-0, 1-1) which also got a double, single and an RBI from Jordan Davis.
Colin Andrews was the winning pitcher. Spencer Yeager took the loss.
Bentworth 5, Frazier 2 – Sam Wade had two hits, an RBI and was the winning pitcher as the host Bearcats handed the Commodores their first loss of the season in a Section 1-2A game.
Zeke Malanosky doubled and singled and Craig McDonald also doubled for Bentworth (1-1, 1-1) which also got two hits apiece from Ben Hays and Lucas Burt.
Aiden Hardy doubled for Frazier (1-1, 4-1) which got one RBI each from Tyler Morrison and Tyler Monack.
Avella 15, West Greene 7 – Jordan Moore drove in five runs and Bryce Wright homered and had three RBIs as the host Eagles remained unbeaten with a Section 1-A win over the Pioneers.
Hayden Gatewood knocked in two runs for Avella (2-0, 6-0). Chas Rush was the winning pitcher.
Patrick Durbin and Will Shipman had two RBIs apiece for West Greene (0-2, 0-2).
West Mifflin 9, Albert Gallatin 3 – Luke Wilson doubled twice for the Colonials but Albert Gallatin still fell to the Titans in a Section 2-4A game.
Softball
Brownsville 2, Johnson Creek (Wis.) 0 – Ava Clark struck out 19 in firing a two-hitter in the Lady Falcons’ win over Johnson Creek in Tennessee.
Mia O’Hern had two hits for Brownsville (3-1).
Jefferson-Morgan 6, McGuffey 2 – Emilee Bazzoli homered in the Lady Rockets’ non-section victory over the Lady Highlanders (1-2).
Ashlynn Snyder, Addyson Teagarden and Karlee Crockard each doubled for Jefferson-Morgan (2-0).
Thomas Jefferson 9, Belle Vernon 6 – Allie Chalovich and Morgan Alisesky both homered in the Lady Jaguars’ non-section win over the Lady Leopards.
Lauren VanDivner and Maddie Grisnik each had a double, single and an RBI for Belle Vernon (2-3), which also got two hits from Paisley Hibner.
West Greene 11, Cameron (W.Va.) 0 – Payton Gilbert doubled, singled and knocked in three runs in the Lady Pioneers’ non-section win over Cameron.
Emmaline Beazell also doubled and had two RBIs for West Greene (2-0).
