Local roundup: Noah fires shutout as Lady Raiders blank LH

Emmaleigh Noah fired a four-hit shutout and Uniontown wrapped up third place in Section 2-4A with a victory over visiting Laurel Highlands in softball action Wednesday.

Noah walked one and struck out six and got plenty of support from her offense, most notably Juliet White, who was 2 for 3 with a solo home run and a double, and Lauren White, who was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI.

Kendal Nehls added a run-scoring single for the Lady Raiders (8-4, 10-6).

Izzy Coleman took the loss for the Fillies, allowing three runs and two walks with three strikeouts in three innings. Payton Senge pitched three scoreless innings for LH, allowing just one hit and no walks with four strikeouts.

Uniontown scored the only run it would need in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back, two-out doubles from Juliet White and Lauren White.

Payton Rambo singled and walked for the Fillies (5-7, 6-10) who fell short of qualifying for the playoffs.

Frazier 9, Bentworth 1 – Grace Polkabla smacked three hits, including a triple, and knocked in two runs in the Lady Commodores’ Section 4-2A win over the Lady Bearcats.

Zoey Zurenski contributed two hits and three RBIs for Frazier (8-1, 11-2) which wrapped up at least a share of the section title with the victory.

Morgan Fisher and Malana Burton had two hits a piece and Emme Travalena tripled and had had two RBIs for the Lady Commodores who also got a single and an RBI from Grace Vaughn.

Winning pitcher Addison Hiles gave up four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.

Sydney Gonglik provided the only run for Bentworth (4-4, 7-7) with a solo homer and also singled, and Nora Lindley doubled.

Losing pitcher Willow Eckels surrendered five earned runs with no walks and four strikeouts.

West Greene 13, Beth-Center 3 – Payton Gilbert was 3 for 4 with an RBI and was the winning pitcher as the Lady Pioneers triumphed over the visiting Lady Bulldogs in a six-inning Section 2-A game.

Kylee Davis had two hits and two RBIs and Khyler Davis and Kendra Tharp each contributed a single and two RBIs for West Greene (8-1, 13-1) which also got an RBI apiece from Marissa Tharp, Emmaline Beazell, Katie Brudnock and Melony Shreve.

Gilbert allowed five hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

Jenna Pohill doubled and singled, Keira Lamp also had two hits and Bella Stepp had a double and an RBI for Beth-Center (2-7, 2-11) which also got two RBIs from Alli Lynch. Hannah Belmont took the loss.

Jefferson-Morgan 13, Avella 0 – Brooklynne Snyder was 4 for 4, including a double, and drove in two runs in the Lady Rockets’ Section 2-A victory over the visiting Lady Eagles (3-6, 4-10).

Gabby Marmie hit a home run and Ashlynn Snyder contributed three RBIs for J-M (5-4, 8-5) which avenged a 10-9 loss at Avella on April 17.

Penn-Trafford 7, Connellsville 4 – Isabella Rubbe had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs as the Lady Warriors fought off the host Lady Falcons in a non-section clash.

Annabelle Carvajal had three hits and Gabriella Rubbe added a triple and a single for Penn-Trafford (15-1). Allyson Paulone earned the win.

Cali Leichliter hit a solo home run and Kaylee Roadman singled twice and knocked in a run for Connellsville (10-5) which also got two hits apiece from Molly Greenawalt and Kayln Cole and two RBIs from Rylee Dreves.

Losing pitcher Mackenzie Victor surrendered four earned runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts in four innings.

Yough 15, California 0 – Jaidyn Vay threw a four-inning no-hitter as the Lady Cougars shut down the Lady Trojans in a non-section game.

Anna LIndner doubled twice, singled and knocked in three runs for Yough (5-8) which also got three RBIs from Kierstin Odelli.

Baseball

Beth-Center 5, Bentworth 4 – Jonah Sussan had two hits and two RBIs and Eli Wright pitched a four-hitter as the Bulldogs beat the Bearcats (3-9, 3-10) in a Section 1-2A game.

Wright allowed two earned runs with one walk and one strikeout. Logan Durbin had a single, RBI and run scored for Beth-Center (3-6, 6-9) which also got a single and a run from Luke Amon.

Charleroi 9, Brownsville 1 – Brock Henderson had three hits, including a two-run single in a six-run second inning, as the Cougars beat the Falcons in a Section 4-3A game.

Kaden Woods also had three hits, including a pair of RBI singles, for Charleroi (7-3, 9-5) which also got two hits and an RBI from Lazer Glasser.

Winning pitcher Jacob Gelder gave up no earned runs on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts in four innings.

Losing pitcher Hunter Pelehac allowed seven runs in four innings with four walks and six strikeouts in four innings. Jeremiah McDonald singled in the only run for Brownsville (3-9, 4-10).

Fort Cherry 10, California 5 – Tyler Wolfe had three hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in three RBIs as the Rangers rallied from a 5-2 deficit for a Class 4-2A victory over the visiting Trojans.

Ryan Huey also had three hits, including a triple and a double, as did Colton Temple who had two doubles and two RBIs for Fort Cherry (9-1, 11-4) which also got a three-run homer from Shane Cornali and a double from Blake Merckle.

Dylan Lueck earned the win in relief of starter Huey. Lueck allowed one hit and one walk with three strikeouts in three scoreless innings.

Logan Hartley had three hits for California (5-5, 5-9), including a home run and a double, and knocked in two runs. Losing pitcher Ricky Lawson also doubled.

California held leads of 4-0 and 5-2 before the Rangers rallied to tie it with a three-run fourth then went ahead to stay with a run in the fifth. The hosts added four insurance runs in the sixth.
