Local roundup: McDonald leads Brownsville past Red Raiders

Jeremiah McDonald was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBIs and was the winning pitcher as host Brownsville fought off Uniontown, 8-4, in non-section baseball action Friday.

The Falcons (5-11) led 4-1 when the Red Raiders pushed across three runs in the top of the fifth which included singles by Jameson Carter, Luke Gresh and Brayden Hinzy and an RBI double by Shane Kelly to tie the game at 4-4.

Brownsville went back on top with a run in the bottom of the inning on Cooper Cetera’s sacrifice fly then got a double from McDonald and singles from Gene Thorpe and Jonah Dillinger in a three-run sixth to put the game away.

Nash Petroff doubled and singled for the Falcons who also got two hits from Johnathan Vasbinder.

McDonald allowed four runs on seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Thorpe pitched two scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout to earn the save.

Gresh had two hits for Uniontown (2-12). Chandler Myers took the loss.

Belle Vernon 10, Yough 0 – Connor Bergman doubled, singled and knocked in three runs as the host Leopards blanked the Cougars in a five-inning, non-section game.

Winning pitcher Braden Andrews threw a two-hit shutout with no walks and four strikeouts.

Cole Matusik had a double, triple and an RBI for Belle Vernon (13-2) which also got two hits from Logan Miller, two RBIs from Parker Lind and a double from Kole Doppelheuer.

Losing pitcher Michael Bobnar and Tyler Burkett had the only hits for Yough (2-12).

Chartiers-Houston 10, Beth-Center 6 – Julius Livingston had two doubles, a single and four RBIs as the Bucs triumphed over the Bulldogs in a Section 1-2A game.

Justus Buckingham also had three hits with two RBIs for C-H (4-6, 7-7).

Ashten Pinkney had three hits and three RBIs for Beth-Center (2-7, 4-10) which also got two hits and an RBI from Eli Wright.

Softball

Frazier 16, California 0 – Addison Hiles threw a three-hit shutout and smacked four hits, including a triple and a double, and drove in three runs as the Lady Commodores wrapped up sole possession of first place in Section 4-2A with a five-inning win at California.

Morgan Fisher also had four hits, Gracen Hartman contributed a double and three RBIs, and Zoey Zurenski and Emme Travalena also doubled and singled for Frazier (9-1, 12-2), which also got a triple from Grace Polkabla and a double from Emi Bednar.

Madyson Morton doubled for California (0-8, 2-11).

Thomas Jefferson 10, Connellsville 0 – Allie Chalovich, Alayna Grese and Morgan Alisesky each homered as the Lady Jaguars (9-2, 11-5) defeated the visiting Lady Falcons in a five-inning, Section 4-5A game.

Cali Leichliter and Kendal King had the only hits for Connellsville (7-5, 11-6).
