Spring Mills (W.Va.) 52, Connellsville 0 — The Cardinals rolled to a 40-0 halftime lead on their way to a non-conference win over the visiting Falcons.

Spring Mills upped its record to 2-1 while Connellsville fell to 1-3.

“We knew going into this matchup it was going to be tough,” said Jace McClean, one of Connellsville’s three head coaches. “Spring Mills is a perennial powerhouse. Last year they lost in the the state championship game and have a lot of kids returning, some are even D-I commits”

McClean felt the effort was there for Connellsville.

“Even though we were undersized and a lot more inexperienced, we played with grit,” McClean said. “But once something doesn’t go our way, we tend to dwell on it and that leads to the snowball effect.”

McClean did note a few positive performances by the Falcons in the loss.

“Rocco Farrell worked hard all week in practice and put his skills to use,” McClean said. “He had a very good game on the defensive side of the ball at cornerback.

“Both our guards, Ryan Brown and Cooper Lembo, again, were undersized but they played with heart the whole game. We can rely on them doing their assignments correct every play to the best of their ability.”

Connellsville plays another West Virginia team, Morgantown High School, next week at Falcon Stadium.
