West Greene coach Beau Jackson has injected some youth into his football lineup this season and Joel Rizor has taken advantage of that.
The freshman was thrust into the starting quarterback position and has proven so far that the responsibility of running the Pioneers offense is one he can handle.
Rizor turned in his best game of the season during Week Four with a five-touchdown game in West Greene’s 40-0 victory at Mapletown.
Rizor had TD runs of 1, 30, 18 and 50 yards and also threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Matt Wassil in helping his team record its first victory of the season. The 24 points he scored propelled him up 10 spots in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Touchdown Club standings from a tie for 17th into a tie for seventh with 44 points on the season.
Rizor was the highest-scoring player last Friday followed by a pair of three-touchdown performances from overall leader Deakyn DeHoet of Jefferson-Morgan and Albert Gallatin’s Adam Pegg who moved into second place.
DeHoet is the first player to reach the century mark this year, scoring 18 points in a 33-0 win at Parker Field over Carmichaels with touchdown runs of 8 and 58 yards and a 30-yard TD pass from Triton Farabee. His 100 points puts him 28 ahead of Pegg.
The Colonials senior had touchdown runs of 3 and 11 yards and a 52-yard scoring catch from Bronx Jamison for 18 points in AG’s 46-10 win over visiting Uniontown, upping his total to 72. Pegg moved in front of J-M’s John Woodward, who was held scoreless in the Rockets’ victory and dropped from second to fourth in the standings as he remained at 56 points.
Pegg’s teammate Tee Guesman, who had one TD on a 2-yard run, moved into third place with 58 points.
Jackson Mickens helped Southmoreland and first-year coach Dustin Shoaf remain unbeaten by scoring 14 points in the Scotties’ 28-7 win over Ringgold at Russ Grimm Field. Mickens had a 9-yard touchdown run, a two-point conversion run and a game-clinching 32-yard interception return as the Scotties improved to 5-0.
Mickens, who is the second Southmoreland player to have a pick-six this season along with Makel Darnell, jumped up from a tie for eighth place to sole possession of fifth in the TD Club standings with 50 points.
Frazier’s Derek Diamond is sixth, still at 46 points after the Commodores were shut out by top-ranked Clairton.
Tied with Rizor for seventh place at 44 points is Southmoreland quarterback Dawson Wolfe who had a 1-yard TD run in win over the Rams.
Mapletown’s Carson Vanata remains at 37 points and is in ninth place.
California’s Malachi Peak had a 1-yard touchdown run in the Trojans’ 42-0 win at Avella which pulled him into a tie with Waynesburg Central’s Teagen Crouse for 10th place at 36 points. The Raiders were shut out by Steel Valley.
The Colonials’ Bobby Panos became the first area player to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in 2025 with a 99-yard return on the final play of the game against the Red Raiders.
The Scotties’ Liam Smith became the first local kicker to make multiple field goals this year, hitting from 26 and 33 yards against Ringgold to give him three. Smith, who also converted both his extra-point attempts, is the highest-scoring kicker with 29 points which puts him at 14th in the standings.
Mount Pleasant and California both spread the wealth around with their offenses. Seven different players scored points for coach Jason Fazekas’s Vikings and six did so for coach Ed Woods’ Trojans.
Mount Pleasant’s Brady Brooks became the third area player to bring back a punt for a score, going 65 yards in the Vikings’ 49-0 win at Laurel Highlands.
