HS football roundup: Diamond, Secrest spark Frazier in 28-21 win over Brentwood

Derek Diamond racked up 239 rushing yards on 39 carries and Brady Secrest threw a trio of touchdown passes and also ran for a score as Frazier earned a 28-21 victory over visiting Brentwood in a Class A Eastern Conference clash Friday night.
The Commodores (1-2, 3-3) took a 15-0 lead in the first quarter on Secrest’s 1-yard touchdown run and his 11-yard TD pass to Brat Alekson. Owen Searcy kicked the extra point after the first score and Diamond ran in the two-point conversion after the second.
The Spartans (1-2, 3-3) fought back in the second quarter with Cedric Davis throwing a 36-yard touchdown pass to Daysaun Spencer and breaking free for an 85-yard TD run. Frazier stopped the two-point try after the first score but Davis ran in the two-pointer after the second and the Commodores led 15-14 at halftime.
Secrest tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Noah Bachinski in the third quarter to put Frazier up 21-14 and threw an 18-yard TD strike to Chase Fulmer in the fourth quarter to make it 28-14.
Davis threw an 88-yard touchdown pass to Orlando Johnson to get the Spartans within seven but Frazier would hang on from there.
Jefferson-Morgan 40, West Greene 6 — Deakyn DeHoet and John Woodward each scored three touchdowns as the undefeated Rockets soared to a Class A Tri-County South Conference victory over the Pioneers at Kennedy Field.
Jefferson-Morgan improved to 3-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall.
DeHoet caught touchdown passes of 40 yards and 73 yards from Triton Farabee and also ran for a 63-yard TD.
Woodward scored on runs of 63, 7 and 50 yards.
The Rockets led 21-0 after the first quarter and 40-0 at halftime.
Joel Rizor threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Brent Harris in the fourth quarter for West Greene’s only points. The Pioneers fell to 1-2 in the conference and 1-5 overall.
West Greened inducted three new members — Arnold Wilson, Kevin Guthrie and Madison Renner — into its Pioneer Athletic Hall of Fame in a ceremony before the game.
Butler 44, Connellsville 27 — The Golden Tornado outscored the visiting Falcons 30-0 in the third quarter to rally for a non-conference victory.
Connellsville took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on touchdown runs of 1 yard by Dylan Lytle and 45 yards by quarterback Caden Matthews but Nicco Baggetta’s 21-yard TD pass to Mark Klemz got Butler (4-2) with 14-7 heading into the second quarter.
Matthews threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Rocco Farrell and Hunter Brown’s extra point put the Falcons up 21-7.
Baggetta connected with Mason Lacey on a 26-yard TD pass before the half ended to make it 21-14.
Klemz ignited the Golden Tornado’s third-quarter eruption with touchdown runs of 13, 22 and 2 yards and Ty Piono added an 8-yard fumble return for a score.
Jayden Mickens had a 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for Connellsville (1-5).
California 53, Mapletown 0 — Malachi Peak had nine carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns as six different players scored TDs in the Trojans’ Class A Tri-County South Conference win at Mapletown.
California (3-0, 5-1) jumped out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter on Peak’s 1-yard touchdown run, a safety and Logan Hartley’s 25-yard TD pass to Elijah Carpenter.
Noah Layhue’s 20-yard return of a blocked punt for a score put the visitors up 24-0 with 6:38 left in the second quarter.
California would add three more scores before halftime on TD runs of 26 yards by Peak and 5 yards by Landon Abercrombie and a 23-yard field goal by Adin Keyes for a 41-0 lead.
The Trojans’ Brandon Meier and Kobe Veazey added touchdown runs of 26 and 11 yards in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
Hartley completed all three of his pass attempts for 53 yards.
Wyatt Downs had two receptions for 40 yards for Mapletown (0-3, 1-5) and also made seven tackles.
Southmoreland 23, Derry 11 — Dawson Wolfe completed 12 of 19 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns as the Scotties remained perfect under first-year coach Dustin Shoaf with a Class 3A Interstate Conference win at Derry.
Southmoreland (1-0, 6-0) took a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter on Wolfe’s 18-yard touchdown pass to Stanley Betters and Averyon Darnell’s 3-yard TD run.
Derry (0-1, 3-3) recorded the first of its two safeties in the game when Dylan Pitzer tackled Wolfe in the end zone in the second quarter.
Liam Smith kicked a 38-yard field goal later in the quarter to give the Scotties a 17-2 halftime lead.
Southmoreland made it 23-2 when Wolfe tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Ty Whoric in the third quarter.
The Trojans’ Max Doherty, who had 25 carries for 128 yards, scored on a 1-yard plunge later in the quarter to make it 23-9
The only scoring of the fourth quarter came on a safety for Derry when a high snap went over Southmoreland punter Makel Darnell’s head and he then kicked the ball out of the end zone to avoid giving up a touchdown.
Darnell had four receptions for 51 yards. Jackson Mickens ran 13 times for 56 yards to lead the Scotties’ ground game.
Thomas Jefferson 14, Belle Vernon 10 — Harrison Kolling’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Dom Volomino with 2:19 left lifted the visiting Jaguars to a Class 4A Big Six Conference win over the Leopards at The Beach.
Curtis Wade’s 74-yard touchdown pass to Anthony DiCenzo had given Belle Vernon (0-1, 1-4) a 10-7 lead earlier in the quarter.
The Leopards held a 3-0 advantage after one quarter thanks to a 37-yard field by Preston Rathway.
Thomas Jefferson (1-0, 5-1) went ahead 7-3 on Ty Eber’s 17-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Chase Petrosky had 20 carries for 123 yards for Belle Vernon.
Wade completed 13 of 17 passes for 214 yards.
Bentworth 35, Carmichaels 6 — Ben Hays had 17 carries for 167 yards and four touchdowns in the Bearcats’ Class A Tri-County South Conference victory over the host Mikes at Coaches Field.
Hays scored on runs of 38 and 29 yards in the first quarter to give Bentworth (2-1, 4-2) a 14-0 lead and it never looked back.
Ty Watson’s 21-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Ayers in the second quarter gave the Bearcats a 21-0 halftime advantage.
Hays found the end zone on runs of 15 and 19 yards in the third quarter to make it 35-0.
Will Murray, who had 17 carries for 74 yards, got Carmichaels (0-3, 1-4) on the board with a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The Mikes’ Cannon Bupka had 24 carries for 112 yards.
Caden Hackinson made all five of his extra-point attempts for the Bearcats.
Braydon Taggart had a game-high 14 tackles and Gavin Haynes had 11 tackles, a blocked punt and a fumble recovery for Bentworth.
Job Smith had seven tackles for Carmichaels.
Mount Pleasant 41, Yough 7 — Stephen Predajna ran for 105 yards and a touchdown and Dane Firmstone scored two TDS and threw for another as the host Vikings rolled past the Cougars in a Class 3A Interstate Conference game.
Predajna scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter to put Mount Pleasant (1-0, 4-2) ahead to stay.
Firmstone returned a blocked punt three yards for a touchdown with 9:46 left in the second quarter, scored on a 4-yard run at 6:32 and tossed a 14-yard scoring pass to Richard Shawley at 4:23 to give the Vikings a 27-0 halftime advantage.
Firmstone completed 5 of 10 passes for 48 yards.
Mount Pleasant added touchdown runs of 14 yards by Rage Suchar and 25 yards by Kaden Huder to push its lead up to 41-0 after three quarters.
Tyke Snyder was 4 for 5 on extra-point kicks for the Vikings.
Yough (0-1, 2-4) avoided the shutout when Aidan Shaffer threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Sarver with 2:17 left in the fourth quarter.
Avella 20, Beth-Center 17 — Chas Rush’s 2-yard touchdown run with 2:33 remaining lifted the visiting Eagles to a Class A Tri-County South Conference victory at Beth-Center.
The Bulldogs had a chance to force overtime but Hunter Bobbs’ 31-yard field goal attempt as time expired was blocked by Avella.
Bryce Wright scored two long touchdowns for the Eagles (2-1, 5-1).
Enzo Brown gave Beth-Center (1-2, 1-5) the lead with an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter as Bobbs added the extra point to make it 7-0.
Rush tossed a 47-yard touchdown pass to Wright later in the quarter to knot the score at 7-7.
Bobbs’ 27-yard field gave the Bulldogs a 10-7 halftime lead and Teagan Veatch’s 9-yard TD run in the third quarter upped the margin to 10 points.
Wright’s 63-yard touchdown run whittled the gap to 17-14 later in the third quarter.
