Local roundup: Tedrow fires shutout as Waynesburg blanks California
Gina Tedrow fired a three-hit shutout and was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI as Waynesburg Central blanked host California in Section 4-2A softball action on Friday.
Tedrow struck out 15 and walked just one.
Ellie Makel also had three hits and Eva Pester chipped in with a single and two RBIs for the Lady Raiders (1-1, 4-2).
Waynesburg scored the only run it would need in the second inning and added three in the third, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Bria Stephenson and Sarah Gump each contributed one RBI for the Lady Raiders.
The only hits for the Lady Trojans (0-1, 0-4) were a double by Madyson Morton and singles by Olivia Lenkey and Aubrey Dearinger.
JEFFERSON-MORGAN 16, MAPLETOWN 0 – The Lady Rockets exploded for 11 runs in the first inning on their way to a three-inning Section 2-A victory over the visiting Lady Maples (0-2, 1-3).
Winning pitcher Emilee Bazzoli had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs and didn’t allow a hit. She struck out eight of the 10 batters she faced and allowed just one base runner on a hit by pitch.
Gabriella Marmie had three hits and two RBIs and Braelynn Bayles singled twice for Jefferson-Morgan (3-0, 6-1), which also got a double from Kallyn Novak and two RBIs from Ashlynn Snyder.
BASEBALL
BELLE VERNON 10, CALIFORNIA 0 – Maddox Ceccarelli threw a three-hit shutout as Belle Vernon cruised past the Trojans in a six-inning, non-section game with Leopards head coach Taylor Andrisko facing his former team.
Ceccarelli walked none and struck out five.
Nate Kostelnik had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, Jordan Jerome had a double and an RBI and Jack Edwards drove in two runs for Belle Vernon (4-2), which also got a double from Zach Plymire.
California (2-2) got one hit each from Ian Grodz, Chase Shemansky and Logan Hartley.
