Laurel Highlands scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning and Jack Johns pitched two perfect frames in the Mustangs’ 8-7 victory over Albert Gallatin on Monday in Section 2-4A play at German-Masontown Park.

The Colonials held a 7-3 lead when Johns got the ball in the bottom of the sixth, but he forced two flyouts to left field and a groundout to second base to provide the Mustangs one last chance.

Cage Senchur walked to lead off the seventh and Aiden Milsom reached on an error before Senchur scored on Nick Crouch’s single to left field.

Milson scored on Ramaree Morgan’s base hit to center before Crouch touched home plate when Sevi Vecchiolla reached on an error to cut the deficit to 7-6.

Noah Lion was intentionally walked to load the bases, and after a strikeout, Morgan scored on Andrew Irwin’s single to right field for the game-tying run.

Vecchiolla scored the winning run when Andrew Gallick drew a four-pitch walk.

Johns closed out the game in the seventh by forcing flyouts to left, center and right field.

Laurel Highlands (1-4, 2-7) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Vecchiolla singled and scored on Lion’s home run to center field.

Albert Gallatin (0-7, 1-8) scored a run in the bottom of the second and two in the fourth on RBI singles from Kayden Perez and Mason Usher.

Milsom singled home Gallick in the fifth before the Colonials plated four in the bottom of the inning when Maddox Reynolds stole home and Evan Weakland scored on Kaiden Brady’s single to center for a 5-3 advantage.

Kanyon Sutton and Billy Craig scored Albert Gallatin’s sixth and seventh runs on sacrifice flyouts from Perez and Ben Lilley. Perez had two singles for the home team.

Irwin, Lion and Milsom each had two hits for the visitors.

Crouch had seven strikeouts and walked one over five innings. He was taken out following the fifth inning after throwing 89 pitches. Crouch was hurt by errors, as only one of his seven runs yielded was earned.

MAPLETOWN 6, MONESSEN 5 – Winning pitcher Carson Vanata was 2 for 2 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs in the Maples’ non-section win over the host Greyhounds (0-6, 0-9).

Cameryn Shaffer’s tie-breaking, run-scoring single in Mapletown’s two-run sixth inning put the visitors ahead to stay. Coltin Halbert also had an RBI single for the Maples (1-6, 1-9).

Vanata struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings. Sam Moritz recorded the final four outs with three strikeouts to earn the save.

BELLE VERNON 9, ELIZABETH FORWARD 3 – Nate Kostelnik had a double and three RBIs as the Leopards (6-1, 8-2) handed the Warriors (4-1, 6-4) their first Section 2-4A loss.

Chace Petrosky drove in two runs for Belle Vernon.

BURGETTSTOWN 5, BETH-CENTER 1 – Jacob Nopwasky knocked in the lone run for the Bulldogs (0-7, 0-8) in a Section 1-2A loss to the Blue Devils (2-3, 4-5).

CALIFORNIA 10, BENTWORTH 6 – Kaden Weston had a triple and two RBIs in the Trojans’ Section 1-2A victory over the Bearcats (1-6, 2-6).

Winning pitcher Weston Monticelli and Logan Hartley each also drove in two runs for California (5-0, 7-2)

CONNELLSVILLE 11, MCKEESPORT 1 – Caden Matthews smacked a triple had knocked in four runs in the Falcons’ Section 4-5A victory over the Tigers (0-5, 1-9).

Geno Farrell added two hits for Connellsville (1-4, 4-7).

GREENSBURG CENTRAL CATHOLIC 10, CARMICHAELS 2 – Tyler Samide hit a grand slam as the first-place Centurions (5-0, 5-0) defeated the Mikes in a Section 1-A game.

Ryder Krieg had a single and an RBI for Carmichaels (4-3, 5-5), which also got a single and a run from Owen Ray and an RBI from Brayden Andrews.

JEFFERSON-MORGAN 8, WEST GREENE 4 – Winning pitcher John Woodward pitched five scoreless inning and had two hits and three RBIS and Deakyn DeHoet was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs in the Rockets’ Section 1-A win over the host Pioneers.

Tyler McVay doubled, sinlged and knocked in two runs for Jefferson-Morgan (3-4, 4-7). Woodward allowed just three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Jacob Rizor had a single and two RBIs for West Greene (2-3, 2-9), which also got a double from Levi Yeater.

MCGUFFEY 6, BROWNSVILLE 2 – Jeremiah McDonald hit a pair of doubles but the Falcons (2-5, 2-6) fell to the Highlanders (2-3, 3-7) in a Section 4-3A game.

WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 4, SETON LASALLE 2 – Winning pitcher CJ Corwin threw a two-hitter and Austin Surber was 3 for 3 and scored three runs in the Raiders’ Section 4-3A win over the first-place Rebels (6-1, 7-2).

Kory Taylor had a single and an RBI for Waynesburg (3-2, 3-7), which also got one RBI each from Jaxon Parker and Grant Pack.

Corwin allowed one earned run with two walks and three strikeouts.

SOFTBALL

BROWNSVILLE 3, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 1 – Ava Clark outdueled Gina Tedrow in the host Lady Falcons’ Section 4-2A victory over the Lady Raiders.

Clark allowed two hits with no walks and 14 strikeouts.

Brownsville (4-2, 6-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Emma Leigh Bailey reached on a bunt single, took second on a wild pitch, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch. Lyla Gill doubled for Brownsville’s only other hit.

The Lady Falcons tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning.

Waynesburg scored its only run in the seventh on Kalee Piper’s RBI single. Ellie Makel doubled for the Lady Raiders (2-3, 5-5). Tedrow gave up one earned run on two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

CARMICHAELS 15, MAPLETOWN 0 – Lily Sisler hit an inside-the-park grand slam and winning pitcher Bailey Barnyak blasted a three-run homer while tossing an abbreviated perfect game in the Lady Mikes’ three-inning, Section 2-A win over the visiting Lady Maples (0-6, 1-7).

Barnyak struke out all nine batters she faced with 40 pitches.

Ke’Lani Chun tripled and singled and Carys McConnell drove in two runs with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly for Carmichaels (4-1, 6-3), which also got two hits and two RBIs from Kenlee Machesky.

WEST GREENE 18, BETH-CENTER 2 – Kylee Davis and Caitlin Whyte each had a triple, single and three RBIs as the Lady Pioneers marched to a four-inning, Section 2-A victory over the host Lady Bulldogs.

Kendra Tharp doubled and also knocked in three runs for West Greene (5-1, 8-3), which also got two RBIs from Josie Mason and, a triple, single and an RBI from Katie Brudnock and two hits from winning pitcher Sammi Zimmerman. Whyte scored four runs.

Zimmerman allowed three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Bella Stepp had a double and two RBIs for B-C (2-4, 3-6), which also got a double from Sarah Bader.

WEST MIFFLIN 13, UNIONTOWN 3 – Amelia Novotni had a double and two RBIs as the Lady Titans (5-2, 9-2) beat the Lady Raiders in a Section 2-4A game.

Katie White had two hits, including a double, and losing pitcher Emmaleigh Noah singled and drove in two runs for Uniontown (3-4, 5-4), which also got a single and an RBI from Alivia Noah.

JEFFERSON-MORGAN 15, AVELLA 1 – Emilee Bazzoli threw a three-hitter and Ava Wood doubled, singled and knocked in four runs in the Lady Rockets’ six-inning, Section 2-A win over the host Lady Eagles.

Bazzoli walked two and struck out 15 in allowing one unearned run.

Gabriella Marmie had three hits, Bazzoli singled twice and had two RBIs and Addyson Teagarden contributed two hits and an RBI for J-M (5-1, 8-2), which also got two hits from Addalei Larkin and a single and an RBI from both Kallyn Novak and Braelynn Bayles.

BOYS TENNIS

VALLEY 4, MOUNT PLEASANT 1 – Valley defeated the Vikings in a Section 1-2A match.

Austyn Gross was the lone winner for Mount Pleasant, sweeping Tyler Quin, 6-1 and 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
