Red Raiders roll past Scotties for third straight win
Uniontown’s baseball team got back on track in sweeping a trio of non-section opponents to lift its overall record above .500 at 5-4.
The Red Raiders were set to play another non-section game against Connellsville on Friday night at Bailey Park.
Next the Red Raiders will see if their current form carries over into Section 2-4A play where they have a 2-4 mark. Fifth-place Uniontown hosts fourth-place Ringgold (3-4, 4-7) in a 7 p.m. game Monday also at Bailey Park in the first of key back-to-back section games with the Rams.
The Red Raiders followed up non-section wins over Beth-Center, 6-5, and Monessen, 12-4, with a 12-6 victory at Southmoreland on Thursday.
Luke Gresh double, singled, drove in a run and scored four times and Ethan White and Chandler Myers both had two hits and an RBI to lead the way for Uniontown, which also got one hit and RBI apiece from Shane Kelly, winning pitcher Lane Smiley and Jameson Carter.
Smiley gave up one earned run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts in five innings.
The Red Raiders held a 4-3 lead before exploding for seven runs in the fifth.
Joey Bentz doubled, singled and knocked in a run and Peyton Bann had a hit and two RBIs for the Scotties (1-11).
BETH-CENTER 5, BURGETTSTOWN 4 – Jax Taylor capped a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run double as the Bulldogs stormed back to upend the host Blue Devils in a Section 1-2A battle for their first win of the season..
Chase Bebout and Enzo Brown both doubled and singled for B-C (1-7, 1-8), which also got a double from Ashten Pinkney.
Jayden Roach had a double, single and an RBI for Burgettstown (2-4, 4-6) which held a 4-1 lead after six innings.
MOUNT PLEASANT 17, GREENSBURG SALEM 5 – Bobby Smithnosky doubled, singled and knocked in four runs as the Vikings hammered the host Centurions (1-9) in a five-inning, non-section game.
Carter Urban had two hits and three RBIs, Jordan Grieff singled and also drove in three runs and Santino Marne had a double, single and two RBIs for Mount Pleasant (8-5), which also got a double and a single from Dane Firmstone, a double and an RBI from Ian Shipley, and a single and two RBIs from Colten Keefer.
Cole Hart was the winning pitcher.
FRAZIER 11, MONESSEN 3 – Tyler Morrison tripled and knocked in two runs and Eli Cernuska singled and also had two RBIs as the host Commodores beat the Greyhounds in a non-section game.
Frazier (5-5) also got a double and four stolen bases from Chase Fulmer and a single and an RBI from Brant Alekson.
Winning pitcher Nick Porter gave up four unearned runs on three hits with six walks and eight strikeouts. Logan Solomon hurled three scoreless frames to earn a save.
Colton Shawley had two hits and two RBIs for Monessen (0-11).
MCGUFFEY 5, CARMICHAELS 2 – Wyatt Hildreth had a double and an RBI as the Highlanders (4-8) triumphed over the Mikes in a non-section game.
Scott Maskil had a double, single and an RBI for Carmichaels (5-6).
YOUGH 19, CALIFORNIA 9 – Nate Bell had two hits and three RBIs as the Cougars (8-3) rolled past the Trojans in a non-section game.
Kaden Weston drove in four runs with a pair of triples and a single for California (8-3).
BRASHEAR 11, GEIBEL CATHOLIC 8 – Eahn Stevenson hit a grand slam for the Gators but it wasn’t enough as the host Bulls hung on for a non-section win, escaping a bases-loaded jam to end the game.
Nicholas Saraken had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs for Brashear (4-4).
John Hess had a double, single and an RBI for Geibel, which also got a double and an RBI from Zane Hixson.
Kade Yoders pitched well in relief for the Gators, allowing one earned run on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings, and also had a single and an RBI.
SOFTBALL
FRAZIER 8, WASHINGTON 1 – Addison Hiles continued her sharp recent pitching, limiting the host Lady Prexies to one run on eight hits, and Morgan Fisher had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs as the Lady Commodores cruised to an important Section 4-2A victory.
Hiles, who had two hits and an RBI, walked none and struck out six.
Emma Travalena singled and had two RBIs for Frazier (4-4, 6-6), which jumped over Waynesburg Central into fourth place in the section. Delani Anderson also had two hits for the Lady Commodores.
Sophie McCort doubled and drove in the lone run for second-place Washington (5-2, 8-3), which also got triples from both Tateionna Warren and Faith Partozoti.
UNIONTOWN 10, RINGGOLD 0 – Juliet White blasted a home run, singled twice and knocked in two runs as the Lady Raiders blanked the Lady Rams (0-9. 0-10) in a five-inning Section 2-4A game.
Winning pitcher Alivia Noah allowed three hits and no walks with five strikeouts.
Gracie Rodeheaver also had three hits, including a double, and knocked in three runs, Lauren White doubled and singled and Sincere Dunlap had two hits and three RBIs for Uniontown (4-4, 6-4), which is tied with Laurel Highlands for fourth place.
