Lady Mustangs fall at No. 3 North Catholic

North Catholic jumped out to a 23-9 lead in the first quarter and pulled away from there for a 67-21 victory over visiting Laurel Highlands in a WPIAL Class 4A girls basketball first-round playoff game on Monday.

Brady Wehner led the way with 20 points for the third-seeded Lady Trojans (18-5), who also got 13 points from Harmony Jones and 10 from Sam Weir.

Taylor Schwertfeger was the top scorer for the 14th seeded Lady Mustangs (8-15) with seven points.

The Lady Eagles will meet Beaver in the quarterfinals.

BEAVER 62, MOUNT PLEASANT 35 — The Lady Bobcats built a 35-22 halftime lead then out-scored the visiting Lady Vikings 18-2 in the third quarter to seize complete control on their way to a WPIAL Class 4A first-round victory.

Annsley Baker paced No. 6 Beaver with 29 points and Ava Wright added 12.

Grace Arrigo led No. 11 Mount Pleasant with 12 points.

The Lady Bobcats face North Catholic in the quarterfinals.
