Belle Vernon Legion rolls past Brownsville

Aiden Shaffer went 2 for 2, including a three-run homer, and knocked in six runs and Belle Vernon pitched a combined no-hitter in romping over visiting Brownsville, 17-1 in five innings, in Fayette American Legion baseball action on Tuesday.
Shaffer’s home run came in a 10-run second inning in which he also had a two-run single. He added a sacrifice fly later in the game.
Cole Matusik also homered for Belle Vernon, hitting a two-run shot in a three-run third inning, and delivered a sacrifice fly in driving in three runs.
Belle Vernon also scored one run in the first and three in the fourth.
JB Crovak had two hits, including a two-run double, and Jack Crovak contributed an RBI double and a sacrifice fly for Belle Vernon, which also got a triple, single and four runs scored from Chase Petrosky and a triple from Aiden Grimes.
Winning pitcher Ian Porter and JB Crovak teamed up to throw the no-hitter. Porter walked none and struck out six in three innings and Crovak allowed the one run as he walked four and also struck out six in two innings.
Brownsville scored its run in the fourth innings when Jeremiah McDonald walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Benjamin Vojacek took the loss.
