Connellsville edges Belle Vernon, 12-11 in 8 innings

Molly Greenawalt smacked a three-run triple to spark a four-run rally in the top of the eighth inning and Connellsville held on to defeat host Belle Vernon, 12-11, in an extra-inning non-conference softball battle Saturday.

The score was tied 8-8 after seven innings. After the Lady Falcons (2-1) put up four runs in the top of the eighth, the Lady Leopards plated three in the bottom of the inning. Connellsville’s Mackenzie Victor came on in relief during the eighth inning to record the final three outs and record the save. Winning pitcher Halle Parfitt pitched seven innings.

Addison Lloyd tripled, singled and drove in three runs and Cali Leichliter was 1 for 2 with a home run, two RBIs, three walks and three runs for Connellsville, which also got two hits apiece from Rylee Dreves, Kayln Cole and Greenawalt.

Ava Jones knocked in three runs with a home run and a triple, Belle Williams contributed a pair of doubles and an RBI and Mailey Hayes doubled, singled and knocked in two runs for Belle Vernon (1-1).

The Lady Leopards also got a double and a single from Lily Crawford, two hits from Addy Newman and a single and two RBIs from Paisley Hibner.

ALLENTOWN, N.J. 3, CARMICHAELS 2 – Katelyn Franckoviak scored the winning run on a two-out error in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Redbirds to a walk-off win over the Lady Mikes in a non-section game played in Orlando.

Winning pitcher Kelsey Loughlin threw a two-hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts, allowing only an RBI single to Carys McConnell and a single to Ke’Lani Chun.

Losing pitcher Bailey Barnyak gave up just two hits and three unearned runs with one walk and three strikeouts for Carmichaels.

FRAZIER 5, SERRA CATHOLIC 4 – Morgan Fisher hit a one-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the host Lady Commodores a non-section victory over the Lady Eagles.

Winning pitcher Addison Hiles was 3 for 4 with an RBI and allowed three earned runs on five hits with four walks and 11 strikeouts.

Emme Travelena had a triple and an RBI and Grace Polkabla doubled and single for Frazier (1-1), which also got two hits from Fisher and a single and RBI from Delani Anderson.

Losing pitcher Kelly Morrissey gave up four earned runs on nine hits with two walks and 13 strikeouts for Serra. Arionna Major was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs.

SOUTHEASTERN 13, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 3 – Gracie Brown knocked in three runs with a triple and a dougle as Southeastern beat the Lady Rockets in a non-section game in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Ava Wood led J-M (2-1) with two hits, including a triple, and an RBI.

BASEBALL

BELLE VERNON 16, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 1 – Zach Plymire was 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs, three runs and a stolen base and Connor Bergman knocked in four runs as the Leopards rolled past the visiting Raiders in a four-inning non-section game.

Winning pitcher Ian Porter allowed one run on two hits with no walks and five strikeouts in tossing all four innings.

Jack Edwards had a double and three RBIs for Belle Vernon (1-0), which also got a double and an RBI from Max Manley and a single and two RBIs each from A.J. Watson and Nate Kostelnik.

Austin Surber hit a double for Waynesburg (0-2).

ST. STEPHEN’S AND ST. AGNES 20, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 16 – The Saints out-slugged the Rockets in a non-section game at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Brayden Ellsworth was 4 for 6 with five RBIs for J-M (0-2) which had 15 hits in the loss.

FRIDAY

BASEBALL

CONNELLSVILLE 4, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 – Noah Zawislan fired a five-hit shutout as the Falcons defeated the host Colonials in a non-section game.

Jayden Mickens and Gradin Hodge both singled twice and knocked in a run for Connellsville (1-1), which also got a double from Linkon Keller.

Zawislan walked one and struck out six.

Cole Smith had two hits and pitched six scoreless innings of relief for Albert Gallatin. Smith gave up five hits and no walks with nine strikeouts.

UNIVERSITY, W.VA. 12, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 2 – Noah Templeton had three hits and an RBI as the host Hawks knocked off the Mustangs in a six-inning non-section game.

Cage Senchur had a double, single and an RBI for LH (0-2) which also got a single and an RBI from Ramaree Morgan and a double from Brody Kutchman.

BOYS’ LATIN SCHOOL OF MARYLAND 4, WEST GREENE 3 – James Savadove’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the host Lakers a non-section victory over the Pioneers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Joel Rizor led West Greene with a two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

CALIFORNIA 10, MCGUFFEY 3 – Eli Carpenter drove in five runs with four hits and winning pitcher Weston Monticelli doubled, singled twice and knocked in one run in the Trojans’ non-section victory over the visiting Highlanders.

Landon Abercrombie added a double and an RBI for California, which also got a hit and an RBI apiece from Kaden Weston, Chase Shemansky and Logan Hartley.

Monticelli gave up one earned run and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings.

FRAZIER 18, MAPLETOWN 0 – Nick Porter had two hits, including a double, and drove in five runs as the visiting Commodores cruised past the Maples in a three-inning non-section game.

Noah Bachinski contributed three hits, Tyler Morrison had a triple and two RBIs and Brent Alekson chipped in with a double, single and two BRIs for Frazier, which also got two RBIs from Noah Varga.

Kaleb Evosevich hit a double for Mapletown.

NEOSHO, MISSOURI, 10, UNIONTOWN 0 – Ethan White doubled for the Red Raiders who dropped a non-section game to Neosho.

UPPER MORELAND 11, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 2 – Jaymison Robinson had the Rockets’ lone hit in a non-section loss to Upper Moreland at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

SOFTBALL

BELLE VERNON 16, FRAZIER 6 – Bella Williams knocked in four runs with three hits, including a home run and a double, and Addy Newman had five hits, including a triple, as the host Lady Leopards beat the Lady Commodores in a non-section game.

Kaylee Sypolt had two doubles, a single and two RBIs for Belle Vernon, which also got a double, single and three RBIs from Maddie Grisnik and two doubles and two RBIs from Sydney Callaway.

Lily Crawford was the winning pitcher.

Emma Essington hit a pair of solo home runs and Emme Travelena doubles, singled and drove in two runs for Frazier, which also got two hits apiece from Grace Polkabla, Morgan Fisher, Jayanna Ciferno and Zoey Zurinski.

CHARLEROI 14, MAPLETOWN 2 – Lainey Taylor had two hits, including a triple, in the Lady Maples non-section loss to the Lady Cougars.

CHARTIERS-HOUSTON 16, CALIFORNIA 0 – Taryne Dilak was 4 for 4 with a home run, two doubles and six RBIs and was the winning pitcher in the Lady Bucs’ non-section win over the Lady Trojans.

Seanna Riggle also homered and had four RBIs for C-H.

JEFFERSON-MORGAN 11, UNIVERSITY, TENN. 1; JEFFERSON-MORGAN 9, SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL 2 – The Lady Rockets picked up non-section victories over University of Tennessee and Springside Chestnut Hill in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Addyson Teagarden had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs and winning pitcher Emilee Bazzoli had 14 strikeouts in six innings in the game against University.

Jefferson-Morgan also got a double, single and two RBIs from Addalei Larkin, a double, single and an RBI from Ashlynn Snyder and a double and an RBI from Gabriella Marmie in the opener.

Bazzoli also was the winning pitcher in the second game with 14 more strikeouts and added a triple, three singles and two RBIs with the bat.

Ava Wood had two hits, including a home run, for the Lady Rockets, who also got three hits and an RBI from Marmie and two hits and three RBIs from Kallyn Novak.
