Leichliter homers twice as Connellsville tops Lady Raiders
Connellsville unleashed some fireworks in a non-section softball clash with Fayette County rival Uniontown on Monday.
The Lady Falcons blasted four home runs, including a pair of solo shots by Cali Leichliter, in defeating the host Lady Raiders, 8-3.
Both teams are headed to the postseason.
Leichliter started a four-run rally in the third inning with her first homer and went deep again in the fourth inning.
Kalyn Cole smacked a two-run homer in the first inning and Kaylee Roadman had two hits, including a solo homer in the seventh.
Addison Smith, Maggie Orndorff and Molly Greenawalt each contributed a double and a single for Connellsville (12-6). Halle Parfitt was the winning pitcher.
Kendal Nehls had two hits and an RBI and Katie White and Alivia Noah each also had two hits for Uniontown (9-7), which also got a single and an RBI from Tessa Livingood.
BENTWORTH 11, WEST GREENE 0 – Sydney Gonglik fired a five-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and clubbed two home runs as the Lady Bearcats (17-1) blanked the Lady Pioneers (11-6) in a non-section game.
BETH-CENTER 11, AVELLA 1 – Kendall Walsh pitched a six-inning six-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the Lady Bulldogs rolled to a Section 2-A victory over the Lady Eagles (0-10, 0-14).
Keira Lamp knocked in four runs with a double and two singles for Beth-Center (4-6, 5-8), which also got a run-scoring double from Allison Lynch.
FRAZIER 7, CHARLEROI 4 – Emme Travalena had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs as the Lady Commodores defeated the Lady Cougars (5-11) in a non-section game.
Emma Essington and Zoey Zurenski each added two hits and an RBI for Frazier (11-7).
MONESSEN 4, MAPLETOWN 3; MAPLETOWN 14, MONESSEN 7 – The Lady Maples (6-11) suffered a one-run loss in the opener but bounced back with a victory in the second game to earn a split of their non-section doubleheader with the Lady Greyhounds (7-9).
