Jenkins hits seven 3-pointers, scores 29 in Lady Raiders’ win

Aierra Jenkins hit seven 3-pointers in a 29-point performance as Uniontown romped over visiting Beth-Center, 60-29, in non-section girls basketball action on Monday night at A.J. Everhart Memorial Gymnasium.

Jenkins, a senior, added three 2-point field goals, and was 2 for 2 at the foul line. The PennWest California commit for basketball and flag football is 27 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

Ambree Long, who made three 3-pointers, followed with 13 points for the Lady Raiders (2-1) and Charley Murtha added 11 points. The home team made 11 shots from behind-the-arc.

Uniontown jumped out to a 25-11 advantage in the opening quarter and pulled away from there.

Kyleigh McDaniel tallied nine points for the Lady Bulldogs (0-4).

The Lady Raiders travel to Brownsville (1-1) this evening at 5:30 in a non-section contest.

Belle Vernon 58, Connellsville 41 — Lyla McConnell hit three 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 20 points and also had seven assists and four steals in the Lady Leopards’ non-section win over the visiting Lady Falcons.

Aubrey Brown had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for Belle Vernon (3-1), which also got 12 points from Saylor Lee, eight rebounds from Isis Almyty and five assists from Abby Russell.

Saige Mickens and Macey Orndorff led Connellsville (2-2) with 13 points apiece and Maggie Orndorff added 11 points.

West Greene 55, California 35 — Kendra Tharp scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Lady Pioneers broke up a close game by out-scoring the host Lady Trojans 16-7 in the third quarter to win their non-section clash.

Jillissa Yeater and Madelyn Robets each added nine points for West Greene (4-1).

The Lady Pioneers led 10-7 after one quarter and 19-18 at halftime before moving out to a 35-25 advantage in the third quarter and pulled away from there.

Lila Mitchell tallied 10 points for California.

Geibel Catholic 72, Derry 24 — Mallory Clemmer and Emma Larkin each rang up 25 points as the Lady Gators rolled past the host Lady Trojans in a non-section game.

Janiah Darnell added 14 points for Geibel which improved to 5-0.

Trinity Miller had eight points for Derry (1-4).

Waynesburg Central 64, Carmichaels 9 — Tess Pauley tossed in 22 points in the Lady Raiders’ non-section victory over the host Lady Mikes.

Peyton Cowell followed with 16 points and Emma Blair had 11.

Joselyn Carter paced Carmichaels (1-3) with five points.

Burrell 56, Mount Pleasant 33 — Casey Brancato scored 20 points in the Lady Bucs’ non-section win over the visiting Lady Vikings.

Chase Coury added 15 points for Burrell (4-1).

Ryleigh Drzal paced Mount Pleasant (2-2) with 10 points.

Southmoreland 49, Ligonier Valley 26 — Ashley Seder scored 13 points as the visiting Lady Scotties triumphed over the Lady Rams (1-2) in a non-section game.

Ava Keefer and Breonna Zaffina each contributed eight points for Southmoreland (1-2).

Boys basketball

Waynesburg Central 68, Steel Valley 55 — Cole Headlee poured in a game-high 26 points and also had seven assists and five rebounds as the visiting Raiders used a big fourth quarter to fend off the Ironmen in a non-section game.

Steel Valley (0-5) took a 19-15 lead in the first quarter, Waynesburg moved in front 30-29 at halftime and the Ironmen reclaimed the lead at 45-44 after three.

The Raiders went back on top and pulled away with a 24-10 advantage in the final frame.

Dane Woods totaled 16 points and eight rebounds for Waynesburg (2-1) which also got 16 points from Austin Surber.

Connor Fitzgerald paced Steel Valley with 16 points and was followed by Ryan Stoker (12) and Tyson Barron (10).

Bentworth 45, Beth-Center 43 — Ben Hays’ bucket off an inbounds pass with three seconds left lifted the host Bearcats to a non-section victory over the Bulldogs in a non-section battle.

Hays wound up with a game-high 22 points and Ryan Moessner added 13 as Bentworth improved to 2-0.

Jason Zellie, who made three 3-pointers, and Parker Amos each scored nine points for Beth-Center (1-1).

Bentworth led 15-12 after one quarter, B-C took a 24-22 halftime advantage and the score was tied 33-33 heading into the fourth.

Mount Pleasant 62, Yough 46 — Gage Valone sank six 3-pointers in scoring 24 points as the Vikings used a big second quarter to propell them past the visiting Cougars in a non-section game.

The Vikings, who made 14 3-pointers, improved to 2-2.

Yough led 11-9 after the first quarter but Mount Pleasant used a 23-5 edge in the second to take a 33-16 halftime advantage and moved out to a 50-26 lead after three.

Tyler Smith topped the Cougars (0-5) with 13 points and Hayden Smith had 11.

Boys wrestling

Brownsville 36, Washington 35 — The Falcons’ Anthony Dulaney fought off his back to avoid being pinned, which enabled the home team to earn a one-point victory in non-section action.

Brownsville improved to 2-0 this season, while the Prexies fell to 0-1.

Washington’s Noah Patton earned a 17-0 major decision in 5:45 at 133 pounds, but Dulaney saved a team point for his squad in refusing to be pinned.

The Falcons’ Jeff Smuzinick earned a fall in 2:26 at 215. Teammates Adam Vojacek (114), Geoffrey Douglas (121), Cynseir Douglas (127), Braiden Scheitlen (139) and Kody Gates (145) won by forfeit.

The Prexies’ Caleb Patton won by fall in 1:21 at 152. Patton is a returning state qualifier.
