Reclassified: Belle Vernon football, Red Raider basketball move up

Belle Vernon is the two-time defending WPIAL Class AAA football champion, but, if the Leopards seek a three-peat they’ll have to do so in a new classification.
Belle Vernon plays in the PIAA Class AAA semifinals Friday night as it looks for its second-straight state title before moving into Class AAAA next fall.
The Belle Vernon boys golf team moves from Class AA to AAA after winning the WPIAL Class AA team title and placing second in the state.
The Uniontown, Laurel Highlands and Albert Gallatin boys basketball teams were reclassified into Class AAAAA from Section 3-AAAA foe Albert Gallatin. Although, Belle Vernon and Elizabeth Forward remain in the classification, and Southmoreland drops to Class AAA.
The Uniontown girls basketball team is also on the move, jumping to Class AAAAA next year.
The Yough boys basketball team goes to Class AAAA.
The Red Raiders golf team returns to Class AAA.
An updated method of classification affected a number of the areaÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ programs, most notably the Connellsville boys and girls.
The Connellsville football team took a big step forward after the Falcons finished with an overall record of 5-5 in Section 3-AAAA. However, Connellsville moves up to Class AAAAA next fall.
The Falcons are also on the move in basketball with placement in Class AAAAAA. The cross country team moves back up to Class AAA after a two-year stint in Class AA, as well the boys and girls swimming teams.
The Connellsville girls basketball team will also play in Class AAAAAA next year. The Lady Falcons return to Class AAAA soccer and the girls volleyball team moves up to Class AAAA.
The Frazier girls are on the move with the softball team returning to Class AA in 2024.
The only shift in baseball is California moving up into Class AA.
The Charleroi boys soccer team had a solid run through the playoffs as the runner-up in both the WPIAL and PIAA Class A championships, but will moved up a classification next fall.
The Mount Pleasant girls basketball team joins current Class AAAA squads Laurel Highlands, Belle Vernon, Elizabeth Forward, Southmoreland and Ringgold.
The Brownsville girls cross country team, as well as the girls soccer team, moves down to Class A.
The Albert Gallatin softball team will play in Class AAAAA next season. The Charleroi softball team moves up to Class AAA. California goes to Class AA, while Beth-Center drops to Class A.
Calvary Chapel Christian School formally joins the WPIAL next year in basketball, girls volleyball, cross country and track & field as the smallest school in the district.
The Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, which ousted both Uniontown and Laurel Highlands in the PIAA basketball playoffs last season, drops to Class AA.
