Local roundup: Vikings top Waynesburg again, take over first place

Connor Drzal pitched a four-hitter and Mount Pleasant took over first place in Section 4-AAA with a 6-1 baseball victory over visiting Waynesburg Central on Wednesday to complete a two-game sweep while handing the Raiders their first two losses of the season.

Drzal also had a double and two RBIs, Cole Chatfield added a double, single and an RBI and Sonny Marne also doubled and singled for the Vikings (9-1, 11-4) who also got a double from Dane Firmstone.

Grant Pack had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Raiders (8-2, 11-2). Trenton Zupper was the losing pitcher.

Washington 6, Jefferson-Morgan 5 – Var Chandler’s run-scoring triple ignited a four-run sixth inning as the visiting Prexies rallied from a 5-2 deficit to beat the host Rockets in a non-section game.

Joe Wilson triples and Isaac Charnik doubled for Washington (7-8). Chandler was the winning pitcher.

Brayden Ellsworth had three hits and three RBIs for Jefferson-Morgan (6-7) which also got doubles from Jaymison Robinson and Deakyn Dehoet.

High school softball

West Greene 16, California 2 – Kendra Tharp had a triple, single, three RBIs and three runs scored in the Lady Pioneers’ Section 2-A win at Penn West-California University’s Lilley Field.

Ella Scott contributed a double, single and four RBIs, Payton Gilbert knocked in three runs with a trio of singles, and Kylee Davis also had three hits for West Greene (7-4, 9-6) which also got a triple and three RBIs from Marissa Tharp.

Winning pitcher Samamtha Zimmerman struck out four while pitching three scoreless innings without allowing a hit or walk in relief of starter Gilbert, who gave up one earned run in two innings.

Kera Urick took the loss for the Lady Trojans (1-11, 1-13).

Frazier 12, Monessen 0 – Grace Vaughn drove n four runs with a triple, double and single and Addison Hiles threw a no-hitter as the Lady Commodores romped over the visiting Lady Greyhounds in a five-inning Section 3-A game.

Gracen Hartman and Hiles both had two hits and an RBI for Frazier (10-0, 10-0) which also got a triple from Delani Anderson and a double from Malana Burton.

Hiles struck out six and walked one.

Sidney Campbell took the loss for Monessen (6-5, 6-6).

Belle Vernon 13, Uniontown 2 – Mailey Hayes was 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs as the Lady Leopards rolled past the visiting Lady Raiders in a five-inning Section 2-AAAA game.

The win pulled Belle Vernon (8-4, 13-3) to within a half game of second-place Uniontown (8-3, 8-4). The Lady Raiders were scheduled to close section play with a game at first-place Elizabeth Forward on Thursday.

Gracie Sokol drove in three runs with a home run and a triple, Sydney Stark had a double and two RBIs and Katie Sokol also knocked in two runs for the Lady Leopards.

Winning pitcher Maddie Grisnik gave up five hits and struck out seven.

Losing pitcher Emmaleigh Noah had two hits for the Lady Raiders who also got a triple and an RBI from Ava Livingood and a double and an RBI from Graci Rodeheaver.

Greensburg Salem 7, Laurel Highlands 5 – Tymara White had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs as the Lady Lions triumphed over visiting Laurel Highlands in a Section 2-AAAA game.

Sammie Reusser added a triple, single and an RBI for Greensburg Salem (4-7, 6-10) which pulled within one game of the fourth-place Fillies.

Laurel Highlands (5-6, 5-7) needed a win at Albert Gallatin or a loss by the Lady Lions to visiting Ringgold on Thursday to clinch a playoff spot. Greensburg Salem holds the tiebreaker because it swept its two games with the Fillies.

Chartiers-Houston 11, Jefferson-Morgan 0 — Seven different players drove in at least one run as the Lady Bucs clinched at least a share of the Section 2-A title by blanking the visiting Lady Rockets.

Chartiers-Houston led 4-0 before scoring seven times in the bottom of the fourth. Taryne Drilak hit a solo home run, Seanna Riggle added a triple, and Zaylee Fonner and Lauren Rush each had a double.

Winning pitcher Meadow Ferri struck out 10 over four innings.

Emilee Bazzoli had both of J-M’s hits.

Carmichaels 7, Mapletown 0 — Carys McConnell homered and tripled, and Bailey Barnyak pitched a one-hitter as Carmichaels defeated visiting Mapletown in Section 2-A game.

Barnyak, who also doubled, struck out 14 and walked one.

Megan Voithofer had two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Mikes (8-1, 11-2) who also got two hits from Ali Jacobs and a double from Duski Staggers.

Treslee had the lone hit for the Lady Maples (4-8, 4-10).

Charleroi 13, Fort Cherry 0 — Sofia Celaschi fired a no-hitter as the Lady Cougars defeated the visiting Lady Rangers (0-11, 0-12) in a Section 3-AA game.

Celaschi, who also had a double and three RBIs, struck out 10 and walked one.

Riley Jones went 2 for 2 with a double, three runs and three RBIs, and Lyla Brunner doubled and drove in a pair for Charleroi (7-4, 10-4).

Beth-Center 13, Washington 8 — Kayleigh McDaniel drove in five runs and winning pitcher Chloe Byrne was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, powering Beth-Center past Washington in a Section 3-AA game.

Kaitlynn Signorini doubled and Keira Lamp had three singles to back Bryne’s winning pitching for B-C (4-5, 5-5).

Mackenzie Patterson went 4 for 4 for the Lady Prexies who also got a triple from Breonna Mitchell and a double and three RBIs from Simone Ivery.

Elizabeth Forward 10, Ringgold 0 – Julia Resnik had a triple, single and two RBIs and Carlee Soukup also drove in two runs with a double and a single as the first-place Lady Warriors cruised past the visiting Lady Rams (2-9, 2-11) in a five-inning Section 2-AAAA game.

Winning pitcher Shelby Telegdy allowed two hits, struck out 14 and also doubled for EF (11-0, 14-1) which also got a double from Alyssa Dulla.

Yough 11, Mount Pleasant 7 – Adoria Waldier had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs in the Lady Cougars’ Section 3-AAA win over the visiting Lady Vikings.

Kylee Odelli drove in two runs with three hits, including a double, and Katie Proctor contributed a double, single and two RBIs for Yough (6-3, 7-3). Kylee Fisher was the winning pitcher.

Addison Reese had three hits and three RBIs for Mount Pleasant (4-6, 10-8) which also got a double and single from Gigi Stanek and a double from losing pitcher Danica Trainer.
