Connellsville wrestlers top West Allegheny

Connellsville won seven of the 10 bouts that were contested in a 33-25 victory over West Allegheny in non-section boys wrestling action at Connellsville Area High School.
The Falcons’ Jake Lilley won by fall at 172 pounds, while teammate Tommy Gretz earned a technical fall (18-3) in four minutes at 121.
Connellsville’s Nolan Rice earned a 12-8 decision at 127, and Parker Lembo won a 9-4 bout at 145.
The Falcons’ Cooper Lembo edged Blake Schepis, 5-4, at 189. Teammate Ryan Brown earned an 8-6 decision at 215.
Luke Lilley won by major decision, 15-5, at 160.
Connellsville’s Kai Vielma received a forfeit at 152.
The Falcons improved to 1-1 this season.
Waynesburg Central 45, South Fayette 25 — The Raiders used six falls to win their Section 2-3A opener over the Lions.
Waynesburg’s Floyd Huff (121), Cole Phillips (152), Luke Rush (160), Randy Whyel (172), Ky-Main Sumpter (189) and Roan Tustin (215) pinned their way to victory.
The Raiders’ Lincoln Fisher edged Donavon Goins, 3-1, at 285. Teammate Jesse Huff received a forfeit at 127.
Belle Vernon 64, McKeesport 12 — The Leopards won six matches via pin in a Section 7-3A victory over the Tigers.
Brayden Broadwater started the action at 114 pounds with a fall in 28 seconds before teammate Enzo Ortolona planked his opponent in 39 seconds at 121.
Belle Vernon’s Jackson Shawley (133), Eric Granato (145), Vander Raczkowski (152) and Eric Adamec (172) all won by fall.
Rylee Doppelheuer (127) and Colby Hibner (160) won by technical fall for the Leopards (1-0, 3-3).
Belle Vernon’s Skylar Gush (189), Elijah Brown (215) and Gracin Guglielmo (107) won by forfeit.
West Greene 48, Laurel Highlands 27 — The Pioneers used six falls en route to a non-section victory over the Mustangs at Laurel Highlands.
Harlan Truitt (114), Noah Collins (133), Joel Rizor (152), Brice Smith (160), Levi Yeater (172) and Colin Whyte (285) recorded falls for the visitors.
West Greene’s Jacob Rizor (121) and Jacob Orndorff (145) won by forfeit.
The Mustangs’ Alex Jones won by fall at 139. Teammate Mark Reed earned a pin at 189 and Marion Jones pulled out a 9-7 decision at 215.
Laurel Highlands’ Zoey Elsbury (107) and Anthony Dasilva (127) won by forfeit.
The Pioneers improved to 1-1 this season, while the Mustangs fell to 0-2.
Jefferson-Morgan 47, South Park 24 — The Rockets took care of business in non-section play against the Eagles, who came into the dual meet undefeated.
Jefferson-Morgan (2-0) received pins from Austin Grandel (107), Caleb Dulaney (114), Connor Pinchok (127) and James Dulaney (133).
The Rockets’ E.J. Lingenfield edged Lucas Guzek, 9-8, at 139.
Geno Orlandi won by technical fall, 17-0, in 4:36 at 160 for J-M. Teammate Payton Bastian (189) also won by technical fall.
The Rockets’ Brayden Hanning earned a 10-1 major decision at 121.
Landon Heath received a forfeit at 285.
South Park fell to 5-1 this season.
Bentworth 54, Frazier 6 — The Bearcats won their Section 3-2A opener with four falls.
Brock McClure (133), Bryce Crowson (145), Mason Crow (160) and Brayden Taggart (215) planked their opponents.
The Commodores’ Emmett Erdely earned a fall in 57 seconds at 152.
Bentworth’s Brian Matthews (114), Drake McClure (139), Owen Ivcic (172), Paxton Thomas (189) and Rusty Debolt (285) won by forfeit.
The Bearcats improved to 2-0 this season.
Boys basketball
Carrick 55, Frazier 35 — The Raiders had an 18-point lead at halftime and cruised to a non-section victory at Carrick.
Luzay Watson had 13 points for the home team. Teammate Treshawn Beasley added 12.
The Commodores’ Koby Stewart led all scorers with 18 points.
Frazier dropped to 3-3.
Charleroi 72, Carmichaels 41 — The Mikes’ Chase Ankrom scored a game-high 16 points, but the Cougars came away with a non-section victory at Carmichaels.
Charleroi’s Jaxson Klinger led his team in scoring with 13 points. The Cougars’ Luke Henderson and Jackson Keranko added 12 points apiece.
Charleroi improved to 2-2, while Carmichaels dropped to 0-3.
