Copperheads too much for Youghiogheny
Carmichaels took care of business in an 11-1 victory over Youghiongheny on Sunday in Fayette County Baseball League (FCBL) play.
The Copperheads improved to 9-1 this season, with their lone blemish being to the undefeated PV Mudcats (10-0).
Gianni Cantini earned the victory on the mound after allowing one unearned run on three hits over five innings. He had six strikeouts and no walks.
Carmichaels scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second, five in the third and three in the fourth. Youghiogheny (3-7) scored its run in the bottom of the fifth, but the game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
A.J. Vanata doubled and drove in three runs for the Copperheads. Teammates Santino Marra, Dom Obiecunas and Alex VanSickle had two hits apiece. Obiecunas had two RBIs.
Game 1: PV Mudcats 10, Mill Run 0; Game 2: PV Mudcats 11, Mill Run 1 — The PV Mudcats continued to roll in FCBL play after sweeping a doubleheader.
The Mudcats had two four-run innings in a six-inning game that was called due to the 10-run rule. The Mudcats had 16 hits. Conner Blake, JJ Charlton and Landon McAlpine each doubled for PV.
Tyson Shumaker hits a triple for the Mudcats.
Mill Run had one hit in Game 1, but it was a big one, as Jake Lee tripled.
Conner Tingler pitched all six innings for the victory. He had eight strikeouts and no walks.
The Mudcats used a seven-run second inning to take control in Game 2. Noah Broadwater and Seth Healy doubled. McAlpine tripled and Carson Bradley hit a grand slam in the second.
Lee drove in Cole Shearer with a double in the fourth inning after Shearer walked to lead off the frame.
