Falcons make trip to Erie worth it

Connellsville made its trip up north to Erie worth it in a 5-1 victory over McDowell on Tuesday at LECOM Sports Park in PIHL Division 2 play.

The Falcons (4-1-0-0, 12 points) scored four goals in the second period and one in the third after McDowell (3-3-0-0, 9 points) opened the scoring in the first period.

Ross Triola found the back of the net for the home team at 15:07 after receiving a pass from Cam Tennant for the even-strength goal and a 1-0 lead heading into the second.

Connellsville’s TJ Snyder set-up Bennett Stull for the game-tying goal at 5:15 of the middle period before Sam Denny sent home the game winner at 6:52 of the second. Nolan Wojnar assisted on Denny’s goal.

Logan Hause put in an unassisted tally at 9:14 of the second. His second goal came at 15:31 for a 4-1 advantage. Stull and Aiden Pletcher assisted on Hause’s second goal.

Riley Denny added an unassisted goal at 6:52 of the third period to put the game out of reach.

The Falcons outshot McDowell, 36-17. Both teams were 0-for-5 on the power play with McDowell going 0-for-3 and Connellsville 0-for-2.

Falcons goalie Nick Daniels-Nimick stopped 16 shots and Dillon Martin made 31 saves for the home team.

Connellsville sits in second place in the Varsity Division 2 Gold standings behind Knoch (5-3-1-0, 17 points). The Knights have played four more games than the Falcons.
